This is an ideal position for a current upperclassman student, graduate-level student, or college graduate weighing their career options in STEAM-related fields, education, organizational and nonprofit management, sociology and/or psychology. Additionally, this is also a great opportunity for a candidate to not only explore career interests but also serve the community supporting Atlanta Public Schools’ most historical cluster of schools. This part-time position will allow the candidates the opportunity to learn and be engaged in many conversations around educational reform, as the cluster of schools served by Raising Expectations are in flux and are ever-evolving. And, certainly last but not least, is the opportunity to use their life and college experience to impact the lives of students residing in an under-served and under-resourced community.
RESPONSIBILITIES (TO INCLUDE BUT NOT LIMITED TO)
• Serve as a and where applicable guide a team of strategic tutors as they implement STEAM concentration material into tutoring sessions
• Developing rich, interdisciplinary, STEAM lessons and hands-on activities
• Preparing materials and supplies required for program operation
• Create and implement diverse learning tactics to teach STEAM concepts to youth
• Attending mandatory staff meetings
• Preparing bi-weekly plans as scheduled
• Maintaining student academic files showcasing work, content mastery academic grades, attendance, number of RE supplemental tutorial sessions completed and track all wrap around supports curated for the family unit
• Using resources and research to ensure that lessons are hands on, project based, and increase STEAM awareness for our students
• Communicating with parents about student performance and attendance in Raising Expectations tutorials sessions and APS' virtual school sessions
• Serving as a bridge that connects community professionals within the STEAM discipline with our parents, volunteers, and students
• Attending and supervising Saturday enrichment activities (average of one to two Saturdays per month)
QUALIFICATIONS
• Bachelor’s Degree or upperclassman in college, preferably in a STEM, social work or Education field
• Comfortable working with children in grades 6-12
• Prior teaching experience is a plus
• A solid foundation and understanding in math and science
• Mature, creative and embodies leadership capabilities
• Ability to supervise a team of volunteers (where applicable)
• Pays attention to detail
• Comfortable utilizing web based collaborative and project management software
• Ability to effectively multitask
• Enjoys working with youth and has high expectations of youth
• Enjoy working with youth and has an understanding of youth challenges
• Willingness to learn and develop new skills
• Excellent organizational and communication skills (verbal and written)
• Exhibits professionalism
• Takes initiative and generates value added suggestions
• Must be reliable/dependable
• Raising Expectations Main Site Commitment: Monday through Thursday (2:00pm – 6:30pm); Friday 1:00pm - 5:00pm
• Raising Expectations @Promise Site Commitment: Monday through Friday (2:00 pm-7:00 pm); Average of one to two Saturday's a month for training purposes at main site as needed
COVID-19 considerations:
Raising Expectations staff are working on site. All team members who are unvaccinated undergo regular COVID testing with the organization's health agency partner. Office COVID policies and procedures have been adopted and implementation is required.
