POSITION SUMMARY

The Communications Manager is charged in broadcasting the Lowcountry Land Trust (LLT) story, providing a consistent brand voice and messaging across all communication channels, and ensuring the overall integrity of the LLT brand. They will be the primary project manager for all LLT communications campaigns, and strategize effective use of current and future channels including the LLT website, social media, email marketing, printed reports, and media relations. 

Reporting to the Chief Advancement Officer, the Communications Manager will join a highly collaborative team responsible for both fundraising and communications success. This person will develop annual themes and execute a comprehensive communications strategy to drive new and deepened interest in LLT’s mission. The Communications Manager is responsible for content strategy and all public relations efforts, including soliciting opportunities to broaden LLT presence through presentations, interviews, and targeted advertising. The Communications Manager has strong aesthetic instincts for design and an exceptional eye for detail; a keen understanding of communications platforms and their distinct uses.

Two immediate priorities for this position will be facilitating a redesign of the LLT website and transitioning from Raiser’s Edge Online Express to an alternative email system.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES 

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Website: facilitate new website design and manage regular updates, SEO, and algorithm strategies to optimize platform efficiency
  • Annual Campaigns: lead team effort to develop and implement thematic campaigns that will elevate the brand, increase funding, and broaden organizational reach
  • Brand Manager: Refine internal and external brand voice, aesthetic, and guidelines
    • Manage corporate identity and order materials (including letterhead, business cards, branded gifts, etc.) as needed
    • Serve as internal marketing resource to LLT staff, assist in creating documents for external communications, create branded templates, and empower field staff to assist with communications
  • Editor in Chief: Design and publish three (3) printed impact reports each year, with appropriate content and data for each theme

Collaborative Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate or design print and digital collateral to support LLT Advancement goals and strategies, including event signage and promotional materials, newsletters and impact reports, and direct marketing pieces
  • With the Creative Content Writer:
    • Create and execute LLT's overall editorial calendar
    • Coordinate strategic use of written communications channels including social media and blog posts, press releases, newsletters, fundraising appeals, etc.
  • ​With the Director of Outreach and Events
    • ​Develop and implement targeted strategies for event marketing
    • Facilitate corporate partner brand activation and appropriate sponsorship recognition
  • Source and manage vendors, including additional writers, photographers, videographers, graphic designers, and printing and mailing contractors

Advancement Team (tasks shared):

  • Collaborate with the Database Consultant on processing gifts, reporting, and tracking direct mail appeals and acknowledgments
  • Report to and engage with the Board’s Advancement Committee
  • Participate in the continuous improvement and documentation of procedures
  • Actively identify, and respond to, other giving opportunities as they arise
  • Develop a regular schedule of compelling direct-mail and online annual giving appeals
  • Share in gift-processing tasks, including scanning checks, validating donor communications, and writing gift acknowledgement notes
  • Perform tasks not explicitly described above

 

QUALIFICATIONS

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution of higher education with emphasis on Marketing, Communications, or related field
  • Three to five years of experience (primary or part of a team) maintaining and updating wordpress or similar CMS websites, email newsletters, and print communications
  • Demonstrated ability to match brand aesthetic and create attractive designs for print and digital channels
  • Proficiency in organizing and prioritizing tasks in a fast-paced environment
  • Familiarity with G Suite and Microsoft Office, particularly slides and PowerPoint
  • Experience with Canva and Adobe Creative Suite, particularly InDesign and Photoshop
  • Passion for Lowcountry culture and conservation

Preferred:

  • Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite
  • Photography and videography experience
  • Journalism or media relations
  • HTML or other website coding languages
