JOB DESCRIPTION

Summary

Under the supervision of the Youth Program Manager, the Family Reunification Specialist will assist with the family reunification of unaccompanied children and their families and support survivors of human trafficking through the provision of multiple program services. The essential function of the position is to schedule and conduct fingerprinting appointments for sponsors of unaccompanied children, provide case management services to foreign-born survivors of human trafficking, and support the Home Study/Post Release Services team in the provision of services.

Responsibilities in the fingerprinting process include arranging appointments with sponsors through answering phone calls and emails requesting appointments and working to maintain an up-to-date calendar of fingerprint appointments. The Specialist helps sponsors complete paperwork necessary for fingerprinting and performs the physical fingerprinting act. The Family Reunification Specialist is also responsible for providing appropriate community referrals to families for needed services and ensuring they understand the ORR sponsorship process and their expectations.

Responsibilities in the trafficking survivor’s program include timely engagement with potential participants, needs assessment and program enrollment, case management and provision of financial assistance, and regular documentation and monthly reporting based on program guidelines.

Essential Functions

  1. Coordinates with sponsors, shelters, and LIRS to schedule fingerprint appointments for sponsors.
  2. Completes paperwork accurately and in compliance with program standards. Makes copies of required documents for client files. Ensures that all files are accounted for and adequately met each month. Ensures that items are filed in an organized manner for quick retrieval and reference.
  3. • Enters sponsors’ information accurately into the Fingerprint database, conducts the digital fingerprints, and submits the completed information electronically.
  4. • Refers clients to Legal Orientation Program for Custodians of Unaccompanied Alien Children (LOPC). Counsels sponsors on available resources in the area to assist with social support.
  5. • Maintains the Digital Fingerprint Machine through proper care and reporting of any technical issues.
  6. • Provides Youth Program Manager with accurate data to ensure timely completion of reports and informs Youth Program Manager about any issues related to the sponsors or equipment. Reports patterns of problems or non-compliance to the appropriate Program Manager.
  7. Conducts program activities in compliance with all contract and regulatory requirements.
  8. Ensures all documentation and client case files are accurately maintained in all program areas.
  9. Cultivates solid and purposeful relationships with stakeholders to better leverage influence and support the program.
  10. Attends meetings, training, workshops, and conferences as appropriate to enhance job knowledge and skills.
  11. Ensures the goals and objectives of the programs are accomplished within the prescribed time frame and budgets.
  12. Keeps the Youth Program Manager apprised of issues or challenges.
  13. Helps respond to monitoring and audit reports and implements required changes.
  14. Creates and manages partnerships and relationships with service providers, partner agencies, public systems, and community volunteers.
  15. Maintains personal and professional boundaries in the performance of the job.
  16. Forges mutually respectful partnerships with clients, co-workers, and volunteers.
  17. Assists in securing funding for current and new programs.
  18. Participates in Inspiritus functions and public relations activities.
  19. Participates in training and professional conferences to keep abreast of current trends.
  20. Conforms and abides by all regulations, policies, work procedures, and instructions.

Work Environment

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines.

Physical Demands

This is primarily a sedentary role; however, some filing is required. This would require the ability to lift files, open filing cabinets and bend or stand as necessary. 

Position Type and Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 9 am to 5 pm.

Travel: Up to 50% statewide travel

Required Education and Experience
 

  1. Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree or international equivalent in education or human services-related or education field and minimum of two years of previous direct work experience in youth and/or human services, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  2. Excellent oral and written communication skills in English
  3. Excellent oral and written communication skills in Spanish
  4. Experience working in a culturally diverse environment and high level of cultural competence
  5. Conviction about the capacity of people to grow and change
  6. Ability to set limits and maintain the helping role of the practitioner
  7. Excellent computer skills, accurate typing, and knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
  8. Must have the ability to communicate with all persons in a culturally competent manner.
  9. Must be sensitive to the service population’s cultural and socioeconomic characteristics.
  10. Must own a personal multi-passenger vehicle, hold a valid Georgia Driver’s license, have a good driving record, and have appropriate personal auto insurance

Preferred Education and Experience

  1. Experience coordinating diverse teams of volunteers and/or interns.
  2. Familiarity with major Savannah schools, social services programs, public transportation, employers, and neighborhoods
  3. Experience with human services programs.
  4. Reads, writes, and speaks a relevant foreign language.
