Job Summary:

The Economic Empowerment Coach provides direct services to low/moderate-income refugees and immigrants seeking employment and financial counseling services. Primary responsibilities include job development, job placement, and assisting clients in developing plans of action intended to help the client reach their goals and achieve financial stability. The Economic Empowerment Coach will cultivate relationships with employers and with employment-related community resources, including private and public employment agencies, the Georgia Department of Labor, and financial institutions, as a means of developing resources to serve clients best. Responsibilities include client recruitment, assessment, enrollment; financial coaching and career counseling; job development; job placement; resource development; report writing, data management, and case file monitoring. S/he is expected to focus services in a one-on-one counseling format. However, the coach might also conduct classes and workshops on budgeting, credit building, and banking products.  S/he will report directly to Refugee Services Program Manager.

Essential Responsibilities / Accountabilities:

  • Initiate and develop group training and instructional opportunities to generate program awareness and individual one-on-coaching clients.
  • Assess client needs via financial health assessment and develop individual action plans with each client.
  • Provide individualized financial counseling sessions and meet grant outcome goals for the year.
  • Make appropriate referrals and integrate other wrap-around supports (i.e., benefits, tax preparation, specialized employment preparation, job readiness training) into counseling to achieve greater results.
  • Identifies and contacts appropriate employers who will provide appropriate level jobs at       market rates in suitable work sites
  • Documents each employer contact and all employer information on the shared job data bank
  • Interviews clients and assesses their education, marketable job skills, career goals, and individual barriers to employment
  • Orients groups of clients to the U.S. workplace and to the area job market
  • Assists clients (or refers for assistance) with online job searches and applications
  • Interacts with clients to ensure a suitable match between a client and a potential employer.
  • Transports clients to job interviews or arranges alternative transportation
  • Interprets for clients as required or arranges for interpretation
  • Maintain program client’s files.
  • Engage in ongoing follow-up with clients on a predetermined grant required schedule.
  • Collect, input, track and report required client data using the client management database.
  • Pull, review and understand credit reports to assist program clients.
  • Prepare credit bureau dispute letters and settlement letters for program clients.
  • Participate in initial training and ongoing professional development training.
  • Follow required protocol and program requirements.
  • Maintain a neat and clean work area.
  • Meet all grant outcome goals.
  • Helps ensure the coordination and integration of services. Coordinates program activities with related activities within the department and in other departments to ensure efficiency and economy.
  • Assists in securing funding for current and new programs
  • Ability to articulate the mission, objectives, and programs of the organization.
  • Conforms with and abides by all regulations, policies, work procedures, and instructions.
  • Complies with the various federal, state, or local laws that apply to and regulate the job responsibilities.
  • Participates in training, fundraising events, and other Inspiritus activities and initiatives such as performance and quality improvement (PQI).
  • Strives toward excellence in the areas of innovation, performance, and extraordinary acts.
  • Participates in Inspiritus functions and public relations activities.
  • Perform all other miscellaneous responsibilities and duties as assigned.

Non-Essential Responsibilities / Accountabilities: 

  • Performs other duties as assigned to meet program needs

Supervisory Responsibilities: None

Financial Responsibilities:

  • Manages funds and other Inspiritus assets, i.e., supplies and equipment, in a manner that is considered productive in the best interest of Inspiritus and conforms with the approved budgets.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or international equivalent in a business, finance, or accounting field and a minimum of two years of previous direct work experience in employment or financial counseling, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English
  • Experience working in a culturally diverse environment
  • Ability to balance the needs of the client and the employer
  • Conviction about the capacity of people to grow and change
  • Must have the ability to communicate with all persons in a culturally competent manner.
  • Must be sensitive to the service population’s cultural and socioeconomic characteristics.
  • Ability to set limits and maintain the helping role of the practitioner
  • Excellent computer skills, accurate typing, and knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
  • Must own a personal multi-passenger vehicle, hold a valid Georgia Driver’s license, have a good driving record, and have appropriate personal auto insurance
  • Or an equivalent combination of education, experience, competencies, skills, and knowledge ensures the successful completion of the essential job responsibilities.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in business administration, finance, or accounting.
  • Familiarity with major Atlanta employers, educational and financial institutions, community resources, public transportation, and neighborhoods
  • Experience with human services programs
  • Reads, writes, and speaks a relevant foreign language.

Physical Demands: Regularly required to talk and hear in person and on the telephone. Required to stand, walk, sit, use hand to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls: and reach with hands and arms to operate a computer and other office equipment. Required to operate a personal vehicle. The employee frequently lifts and or moves up to 10 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.

Working Conditions: While performing the responsibilities of this job, the employee travels by personal motor vehicle and is exposed to changing weather conditions. May perform job functions at out-posted locations as assigned.
