Job Details
The Manager of Donor and Member Events works closely with the Vice President of Membership to implement growth strategies for Fernbank’s signature benefit event, A Timeless Affair, and membership, with emphasis on membership fulfillment events and opportunities. This person will play a lead role in managing all aspects of A Timeless Affair, including but not limited to fundraising, facilitating planning meetings, and volunteer management.; and coordinate Patron and Donor cultivation events. Provides department support and completes general office duties as assigned.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
1) Financial Accountability
· Supports $700,000+ in contributed gifts raised through A Timeless Affair;
· Supports a $1+ million annual membership budget.
· Manages and reconciles income and expense budgets associated with A Timeless Affair and other events.
2) A Timeless Affair Gala
· Supports Vice President of Member Services and Fernbank’s leadership team in their efforts to recruit Event Chairs and a winning volunteer support team. · Plans and hosts regularly scheduled Planning Committee meetings;
· Serves as the Museum’s primary liaison for event volunteer Committees.
· Works cooperatively with the Special Events office on event logistics.
· Works cooperatively with the Marketing office on various communications strategies vehicles including pre and post-event press, printed and digital invitations, digital and web communications, and all other related materials.
· Manages timeline of activities and deadlines.
· Manages platforms and contracts for mobile bidding, the auction and local advertising
· Creates fundraising successful strategies for the following:
o Corporate Giving
o Individual Giving
o Live and Silent Auctions
o Fund-A-Need and Prize Drawing
3) Member Events and Cultivation
· Processes monthly Patron Member renewals, print and email (through CRM system)
· Plans major donor and upper member cultivation events including exhibition previews, film premieres, holiday programs and other activities that will advance donor and member relations.
· Works closely with colleagues to form event Host Committees to attract an audience of peers and new donor prospects.
Requirements
· Two or three years of non-profit work with experience in fundraising and event planning.
· Database management experience, preferably with Blackbaud’s Raiser’s Edge or Altru.
· Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience
Essential Skills and Attributes
· Excited to work within a complex and growing institution, engaging multiple stakeholders across the Fernbank enterprise.
· A strong interest in science, natural history topics, education, and informal learning, and/or museums.
· Exceptional verbal communication, business writing and interpersonal skills are key.
· Highly organized, flexible, results-oriented and able to multi-task.
· Comfortable working as part of a team as well as highly motivated and a self-starter.
