Job Title:   Volunteer Coordinator  
Reports to:    Director, Church and Community Engagement 

Department:   Advancement 
Location:   Tucker, GA with some travel to surrounding communities

Job Summary:   

The Coordinator of Volunteers and Donation Drives assists in initiatives to design, develop, and execute the strategy for developing church, community, and corporate partnerships for Wellroot programs in the Atlanta Metro area and throughout North Georgia. The individual will be an innovative, creative, strategic thinker, and results-driven team member. Strong organizational, analytical, and communication skills are critical to success in this role.   

Responsibilities:   

  • Recruit, train, and retain churches, community organizations, and corporations as partners in support of Wellroot programs 
  • Manage a pipeline of Nurturing Communities through regular check ins, resourcing church and community leaders, and documenting activities, as well as occasional fundraising activities 
  • Enhance and conduct orientation, training, and background checking needed for volunteers, ensuring adherence to Wellroot/state guidelines 
  • Plan and implement donation drives and client-centered events, including assisting with the Christmas event  
  • Implement corporate group volunteer program with a focus on corporations with funding potential  
  • Monitor and respond to all inquiries to the cultivate@wellroot.org email address 
  • Collaborate in a culture of teamwork and mutual support, where work schedule is variable based on the needs of Wellroot programs and volunteers 
  • Contribute to systems of documentation and reporting for data and analytics 
  • When needed, represent Wellroot Family Services at corporate and community events and meetings  

Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree 
  • Strong project management skills and the ability to organize, multitask, and prioritize a heavy workload 
  • Knowledge of volunteerism and volunteer management practices 
  • Public speaking and facilitation skills 
  • Computer skills: 
    • Microsoft Office – strong proficiency and experience working with SharePoint, Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint 
    • Volunteer database management experience preferred 
    • Donor database experience helpful 

Working Environment

The work is conducted primarily in an office setting in Tucker and in communities across North Georgia through outside meetings and events. Fast-paced, team oriented, working with vulnerable clients. The ability to maintain a flexible work schedule, which will include evenings and weekends is required. Must be able to lift 25 pounds.

Foster Care in GeorgiaFor nearly 150 years, Wellroot Family Services has been leading the effort to transform the lives of children and families in Georgia. Through our four programs, Wellroot cares for and encourages the growth and healing of children, young adults and families in and affected by the foster care system of Georgia.

Wellroot first opened its doors in 1871. Its name at the time, though, was The Decatur Orphans’ Home. Its mission was to serve the needs of children who had been orphaned during the Civil War. Over the next several decades, the needs of children and families in Georgia changed, as did the focus and programs of The Decatur Orphans’ Home, whose leadership continued to grow and transform the organization in order to better meet those needs. In 1934, after 63 years as The Decatur Orphans’ Home, The Board of Trustees approved a name change that would better reflect the growth of the organization, along with its potential as an Foster Familiesagency of the Methodist Church. The new name was The Methodist Children’s Home.  Thirty-six years later, in 1970, “United” was added to the name, reflecting the continued growth and transformation of the Methodist denomination.

The needs of children and families in Georgia continue to change and true to our heritage, the programs and focus continue to be transformed in order to better meet those needs.

In December 2018, the Board of The United Methodist Children’s Home approved another name change, one that better reflects the growth of the organization, along with its potential as an agency of The United Methodist Church. After 49 years of operating as The United Methodist Children’s Home, our organization is now called Wellroot Family Services.
