Position:  Fundraising/Engagement Coordinator 

Reports to:  Director of Donor Relations

Job Summary:  

The Engagement Coordinator will lead Wellroot Family Services’ efforts to connect individuals and their resources to our mission, engaging them to provide financial support and participate in our programs by engaging in events, volunteering and advocating for Wellroot. A successful candidate will have a passion for fundraising and connecting people and community resources with Wellroot toward the goal of ending the child welfare crisis in Georgia. The position reports to the Director of Donor Relations and plays a critical role in helping the development team meet annual fundraising goals, while supporting the strategic objectives of the organization. 

Responsibilities: 

  • Identify, qualify, cultivate, solicit and steward individuals, churches, foundations, and corporations securing $250,000 +/- in gifts and commitments on an annual basis 
  • Manage portfolio of 100+ relationships comprised of individuals, churches and corporations, capable of making annual gifts of $1,000 or more and/or who represent viable prospects for foster parents, foster care ministries and/or volunteers. Responsible for moving prospects through the different stages of development, tracking activities toward strategic fundraising and/or programmatic goals 
  • Engaging community members and advocating for Wellroot by securing invitations to speak in churches, to congregations and small groups, for the purpose of educating, engaging and recruiting people to become involved in our mission and ministry. Serves as the first point of contact for Wellroot among churches and community groups 
  • Network with community stakeholders and strategic groups in assembling, organizing and empowering groups to implement community-based foster care ministries, mobilizing resources, foster parents and volunteers in assigned region 
  • Assist the Director of Donor Relations with fundraising strategies that align with departmental goals, including but not limited to prospect research, grant writing, cold calling, calling campaigns, stewardship strategy and implementation, and developing planned gifts 
  • Support our annual gala by working closely with our Development Manager and gala host committee to execute a successful silent and live auction 
  • Collaborates closely with the Community Development team and Programs staff to ensure effective internal and external communication and smooth implementation of activities in order to foster healthy and active relationships with prospects 
  • Advises director and executive team members regarding engagement strategies for important relationships 
  • Partners with all Development team colleagues (development, community development, and marketing) to develop and execute strategic events that serve to acquire, engage, and steward individual donors and prospects 

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in related field preferred 
  • Minimum of 2-4 years in non-profit development experience 
  • Experience working in a donor database 
  • Experience working in human service agencies 
  • Strong computer skills and literacy in Microsoft Office suite with a concentration in excel and word 
  • Ability to compile statistics and program performance measurements 
  • Ability to maintain appropriate donor and electronic prospect files 
  • Speak effectively before groups of clients or employees of organization 
  • Work within program and project budgets 
  • Convey Wellroot’s mission to funders 
  • Track cultivation efforts in donor database 
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills 
  • Strong interpersonal skills 
  • Flexible, amiable, & willing to work as a team player 
  • Strong attention to detail and time management skills 
  • Self-starter and the ability to work with minimal supervision 
  • Excellent relational and collaborative skills

Foster Care in GeorgiaFor nearly 150 years, Wellroot Family Services has been leading the effort to transform the lives of children and families in Georgia. Through our four programs, Wellroot cares for and encourages the growth and healing of children, young adults and families in and affected by the foster care system of Georgia.

Wellroot first opened its doors in 1871. Its name at the time, though, was The Decatur Orphans’ Home. Its mission was to serve the needs of children who had been orphaned during the Civil War. Over the next several decades, the needs of children and families in Georgia changed, as did the focus and programs of The Decatur Orphans’ Home, whose leadership continued to grow and transform the organization in order to better meet those needs. In 1934, after 63 years as The Decatur Orphans’ Home, The Board of Trustees approved a name change that would better reflect the growth of the organization, along with its potential as an Foster Familiesagency of the Methodist Church. The new name was The Methodist Children’s Home.  Thirty-six years later, in 1970, “United” was added to the name, reflecting the continued growth and transformation of the Methodist denomination.

The needs of children and families in Georgia continue to change and true to our heritage, the programs and focus continue to be transformed in order to better meet those needs.

In December 2018, the Board of The United Methodist Children’s Home approved another name change, one that better reflects the growth of the organization, along with its potential as an agency of The United Methodist Church. After 49 years of operating as The United Methodist Children’s Home, our organization is now called Wellroot Family Services.
