In addition to a talented cadre of environmental lawyers and legislative advocates, Earthjustice has an amazing Communications department that works in partnership with every other department at the organization. This position is responsible for working in the Marketing team to help guide the growth of Earthjustice brand awareness, engagement and support. This position will provide marketing expertise across an array of marketing areas including advertising, media and campaign management. In addition, the role will help drive the execution of marketing efforts as well as the day-to-day department needs.

The Marketing Specialist may be based in our San Francisco, CA office or our Los Angeles, CA office.

Due to Covid-19, Earthjustice staff are currently working remotely from approved locations through January 18, 2022.

Responsibilities:

General Marketing and Project Management: (40%)

  • Develop effective integrated marketing plans for assigned tentpole moments in order to present a united brand campaign across paid, owned and earned channels. This would include development and tracking of the campaign calendars, leading cross-functional team meetings and more.
  • Collaborate with the Creative Content and Digital Engagement teams as well as third party agencies to develop marketing campaigns that reach targeted audiences and persuade them to further engage with us
  • Create and support processes that enable information sharing across the team and the broader Communications department
  • Develop, implement and evaluate other strategic brand building projects as directed
  • Align our branded products/merchandise program, collaborating with other teams/departments to identify product needs, sourcing and creative assets
  • Be a strong brand and marketing steward with both internal and external stakeholders and provide them with tools to share within their networks

Media Planning and Execution: (40%)

  • Manage media agency relationship from start to finish including on-boarding, regular meetings, reports, annual performance review.
  • In partnership with Marketing team, establish media planning parameters by campaign and review proposed media buying plan against key objectives
  • Manage trafficking of all ad materials to relevant stations and other providers, including media agency partners, ensuring they receive the necessary files on time and to spec to implement our paid advertising plans
  • Generate reporting for campaign evaluation, optimization, and presentations for team to share with internal stakeholders
  • Responsible for on-going pacing and budget tracking

Strategic Insights and Planning (10%)

  • Be a thought partner in the development and execution of the annual brand marketing plan to grow brand awareness and engagement
  • Conduct desk research or proprietary research on relevant topics, market trends and people to ensure EJ’s efforts are fresh and relevant to target audiences
  • Evaluate competitive landscape across the environmental and social justice space to ensure EJ’s positioning is unique and ownable.

Continued Personal Learning (10%)

  • Participate in organization-wide initiatives and trainings that contribute to the creation of a diverse, equitable and inclusive work culture that encourages and celebrates differences
  • Utilize internal and external resources to support a personal and professional development journey that increases awareness and sensitivity to the needs and concerns of individuals from diverse cultures, backgrounds and orientations

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing or Communications or relevant work experience
  • 3-5+ years of experience in marketing or advertising (nonprofit experience preferred) with a proven track record of managing external agency relationships or working at an agency and managing client relationships
  • Excellent ability to work in a cross-functional, collaborative environment, and to build strong relationships internally and externally
  • Ability to skillfully prioritize and manage a robust set of priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Capacity for absorbing and synthesizing complex program information and translating it into a compelling advertising for new and existing supporters.
  • Self-starter who can spearhead projects from start to finish without day to day oversight
  • Demonstrates an awareness and sensitivity to the needs and concerns of individuals from diverse cultures, backgrounds and orientations.
  • Contributes to the creation of a diverse, equitable and inclusive work culture that encourages and celebrates differences.

Salary is dependent on experience and location.
Salary for San Francisco, CA:$79,400 - $88,200.
Salary for Los Angeles, CA: $75,400-$83,800
