Philanthropy Officer and Faith Based Partnerships

JOB SUMMARY

This position consists of two primary roles: 1) management of a caseload of existing midlevel donors ($500 - $4,999 donations per year) with a focus on donor retention and growth, and 2) manage, retain, and expand relationships with existing faith-based donors coupled with the development of new faith-based relationships. This role will have full responsibility for growing this donor sector, initially to include researching and defining target markets, identifying, and qualifying specific prospects, creating the donor development plan, developing the materials, and execution of the plan. Specific goals and metrics will be created to ensure necessary progress will be established, measured, and reported on.

The Philanthropy Officer has the privilege and satisfaction of helping donors fulfill their passions, interests, and missions through their philanthropic donations. Success in this position requires an individual who 1) can comfortably work with donors ranging from highly secular to conservative Christian and 2) is highly entrepreneurial, a self-starter and energized by prospecting and cold calling.   

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Manage an active caseload of 400-500 midlevel donors. This includes keeping all information up to date.
• Identifying and prospecting faith-based organizations that align with MAP’s mission and represent potential funding partners. Cultivating and moving these prospective donors through the development process culminating in developing partnerships and building a faith-based organization caseload.
• Communicate daily, mostly through phone calls, with caseload contributors to thank donors, tell them about the impact of their giving, learn their passions, and communicate about MAP’s mission and continuing efforts.
• Update daily MAP’s CRM system, Agilon ONE, with all interactions and communications entered in a timely manner.
• Use and update a Donor Engagement Plan to ensure each donor receives the scheduled touch points.
• Follow the annual plan for each donor which serves as a foundational communication and marketing plan, faithfully and on a timely basis, so that donors in the caseload are retained and upgraded.
• In addition to the annual plan, communicate with donors continually. This may include providing timely and appropriate stewardship feedback to donors on projects they have funded, inviting donors to attend special events, or communicating pressing needs such as disaster relief.
• Proactively build a pipeline from midlevel to major donors, listening for cues and ensuring a smooth transition to the major gifts pipeline.
• Attend weekly meetings with MAP’s fundraising consulting coach, Veritus, to receive direction, support, and leadership.
• Be an active member of the Global Giving Team.
• Perform other midlevel donor activities as may be required.

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS

Reports to the Philanthropy Director. Active member of the Global Giving team.

The position interfaces with the following internal teams - Finance, Global Medicines Program, IT, HR, Other staff working directly with donors, and Consultants working with the organization.

This is a work from home position so access to an appropriate home-based workspace is required.

• Ability to work collaboratively across department lines to secure information for reporting to donors how their money was used.
• Ability to create timely reports that reflect caseload performance.
• Ability to share your faith with donors, discuss spiritual topics and pray with donors when needed.
• Ability to be a team player, demonstrates resourcefulness, and projects the mission, goals and values of the organization.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

• Bachelor’s degree preferred, or equivalent work experience, in a field conducive to having strong written and verbal communication skills.  
• A basic knowledge of international relief and development work, health conditions overseas and/or nonprofit business skills.
• Moderate to advanced computer skills required with proficiency in using Microsoft Office Suite - Excel, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint – in addition to regular use of a CRM, database management, and general computer skills.
• A minimum of 2-5 years of successful fundraising experience. Working in the international NGO and relief sector, or comparable demonstrated experience in corporate sales and business is a big plus.
• Experience in fundraising that has shown results and a proven track record of achieving and surpassing targets.
• Experience raising significant gifts from individuals, family foundations, and faith-based organizations.
