JOB SUMMARY

Lead administration and programs, manage day-to-day operations of Respite Care Atlanta’s day care for adults coping with cognitive challenges and coordinate support services for caregivers.. This full-time position will report to the Board Chair and Board Liaison.

Overall Description 

The Director is responsible for operating Respite Care Atlanta’s programs, including (1) overseeing staff and volunteers; (2) recruiting both participants and caregivers; (3) developing and implementing programming; (4) and marketing and promoting the program. 

Staff and Volunteer Responsibilities 

  • Recruit, interview, train and supervise staff and volunteers 
  • Maintain list of volunteers and donors 
  • Provide quarterly training updates 
  • Provide spot training as needed 
  • Maintain confidentiality for all staff, volunteers, participants and caregivers 

Participant and Caregiver Responsibilities 

  • Recruit through phone and on-site interview 
  • Maintain current records 
  • Support caregivers through information, training and support services 
  • Network with community resources that can be of assistance to Respite Care Atlanta families 

Operational Responsibilities 

  • Plan and implement daily programming as well as marketing programming to community with help of volunteers 
  • Plan and coordinate lunch food service and snacks 
  • Oversee billing and collections 
  • Develop budget and track all purchasing and expenses 
  • Ensure program follows all policies of Second Ponce de Leon Baptist Church and Respite Care including proper safety procedures and safe food service 
  • Maintain clean and orderly classrooms, storage and work areas 

Marketing Responsibilities 

  • Coordinate creation of marketing materials for internal and community circulation 
  • Make speaking engagements to promote Respite Care Atlanta 

Reports To: Chairman of the Board and Board Liaison 

Supervises: 1-2 part-time staff members and a large corps of volunteers. 

Location: Atlanta, GA 

Primary Relationships: The chair of the board of directors and the board liaison; the staff and volunteers; the participants; the caregivers; Second Ponce de Leon Baptist Church as host of the program; the congregations that support the program. 

EDUCATIONAL QUALIFICATIONS and SKILLS:   

Education: College degree preferably in counseling, social work, nursing or some form of geriatric care. 

Experience:  

  • Prior supervisory experience in geriatric care program and as a support group facilitator required.   
  • Certification in CPR and Frist Aid required. 
  • Physically able to assist respite care participants, set up activities and lead exercises require. 

Special Skills

  • Great love for older adults and their worth as individuals 
  • Ability to build a strong, effective team and strong community relationships 
  • Ability to organize, manage and supervise volunteers effectively 
  • Ability to coordinate effectively with Board members and various committees in fulfilling mission 
  • Good rapport with spouses, family members, caregivers, and volunteers 
  • Strong knowledge of characteristics of dementia, Parkinson’s disease, and other conditions causing cognitive difficulties 
  • Awareness of symptoms of abuse and mistreatment 
  • Ability to develop creative fun-filled and cognitive enhancing programming 
  • Sensitivity to volunteer/caregiver/participant spiritual beliefs; programming to creeds represented.
