The HorizonWALKS Director - Metro DC•VA•MD is an energetic and ambitious fundraiser/event planner who will take the lead in developing, organizing, managing, and implementing the HorizonWALKS event. Responsibilities also include bringing Horizon’s reach and messaging to schools, civic clubs, social groups, companies, and third- party events; identifying individual and corporate solicitations; and identifying and recruiting various communities and volunteers that will take part in the 2022 HorizonWALKS Campaign. The Director will lead and organize all facets of event preparation, execution and follow-up, which include working with the host venue, vendors, active and prospective participants, and an array of other constituents, as well as managing gift entry, recognition, and reconciliation.  The HorizonWALKS Director reports to the Pozez JCC Development Director and works closely with the Executive Director, the Executive Director of Horizon Camps, as well as professionals from Horizon Day Camps - Baltimore and Sunrise Association.

Sunrise Association  

The mission of the Sunrise Association is to bring back the joys of childhood to children with cancer and their siblings world-wide, through the creation of Sunrise Day Camps, Year-Round Programs and In-Hospital Recreational Activities, all offered free of charge.  Currently the Sunrise Association oversees 8-day camps in New York, Baltimore, Atlanta, and Israel, is affiliated with 35 pediatric oncology hospitals in the catchment areas of our camps and oversees myriad year-round programs both in and outside of our hospital network. 

HorizonWALKS Director - Metro DC•VA•MD responsibilities:

  • Oversee and coordinate the development, organization, marketing, registration, post-event activities, event evaluation, and implementation of the HorizonWALKS – Metro DC•VA•MD event and related peer to peer events
  • Work directly, support, and coach event lay leadership (Chairs and Ambassadors)
  • Identify and develop new markets/communities and opportunities for prospects with significant financial capacity, philanthropic intent and community building 
  • Achieve revenue, expense, and sponsorship targets, with direct accountability for goals set forth in the annual budget
  • Coach Team Captains to maximize over all fundraising efforts
  • Work with Marketing to develop and execute marketing strategy and plan for HorizonWALKS event
  • Develop and facilitate committee meetings with execution of walk plan
  • Build strong relationships with volunteers to ensure retention of key local leaders, fundraisers and committees
  • Assist in managing walk budgets, track income, and expenses associated with HorizonWALKS event and other peer to peer events
  • Help identify and secure sponsorships opportunities
  • Manage administrative duties related to events, including gift entry, recognition, and reconciliation
  • Ensure sponsor benefits are fulfilled
  • Participate in meetings and strategic planning discussions for overall campaign success
  • Responsible to ensure that all HorizonWALKS events meet all Pozez JCC and Sunrise Association Standards
  • Perform other duties as required

Minimum Requirements:

  • A Bachelor's degree in a related field. An equivalent of education and experience will be considered
  • Experience working with a large or national walkathon preferred
  • A minimum of three years related experience in fundraising, event management, walkathons and volunteer management; preferably with a non-profit health agency
  • Experience with peer-to-peer fundraising tools/website
  • Knowledge of and familiarity with the DC region philanthropic and general community is a plus
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite and basic understanding of CRM databases
  • Ability to multitask and handle changing priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills, including the ability to speak publicly in large and small groups and network with collaborative agencies and providers
  • Ability to work effectively with volunteers, staff and external contacts
