The Senior Writer/Editor leads the research, planning and development of thought leadership content and annual reports focused on Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) topics for a leading financial services brand. The position is heavily client-facing and serves as a critical partner and strategic guide for the integrated team (Client Services, Creative, Strategy, Analytics, and Technology).

This position requires extensive knowledge of the growing importance of CSR and ESG to companies and their investors, and the ability to develop a point of view specific to the brand based on its strategic priorities and risk appetite. The Senior Writer/Editor is a lead member of a team that leverages data-driven insights and innovative platforms to develop and execute content-led digital channel engagement strategies.

The Senior Writer/Editor will be accountable for formulation and execution of strategic editorial content plans to develop our client’s unique perspective, and will partner with analytics, design, content, and development teams to drive engagement and continual optimization.

The exact mix of skills is flexible – our priority is finding a motivated, passionate, and curious writer/editor with a solid grounding in strategy, and who puts ego to the side to partner well with both clients and internal colleagues across disciplines.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 

  • Stay on top of emerging CSR/ESG trends in order to optimize approach over time and bring a constant flow of fresh ideas to our clients and internal teams 
  • Alongside Client Service and Creative leads, be ultimately accountable for the measurable success of programs, campaigns, and projects our team develops for our clients
  • Develop and implement content strategies based on client’s business goals, market situation and audience need
  • Oversee the creation of all content, inclusive of short-and-long form articles, white papers, report copy, digital and social, and video/podcast scripts
  • Present creative work internally and externally
  • Manage the day-to-day production of creative work
  • Cultivate internal writers and build a network of external writers to support content needs. 
  • Partner with in-house and client analytics teams to define KPIs and fuel the ongoing development of actionable insights

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: 

Bachelor's Degree in Marketing, Communications, or a related field. MBA, a plus, but not required.

Experience: 

6+ years of experience in business writing, journalism and/or communications. Agency-side experience preferred, fluency in cross-channel digital strategies. Demonstrated knowledge of ESG, CSR and sustainability concepts; experience in financial services industry preferred.

Skills:

  • Knowledge of ESG and CSR trends and evolving industry
  • Have exceptional written and oral communication skills with strong executive presence and ability to sell in ideas
  • Understand how to establish and cultivate client relationships at all levels
  • Ability to translate data into understandable copy and infographics and to tailor messages for relevant audiences (business, investor, etc.) 
  • Conversant in key elements of digital strategy: Analytics, SEO, Email/CRM, digital platforms and build outs, and optimization (A/B, multivariate)
  • Fluent and credible in the principles of content marketing and brand content
  • Be a believer in, and practitioner of, data- and insights-driven planning
  • Be highly curious and proactive – you need to be constantly looking beyond the scope and immediate deliverables, to the wider strategic picture and opportunity for our clients

Several positions available. This is for a contractor role, although hours may be full time.
