VETRI COMMUNITY PARTNERSHIP Established to help kids experience the connection between healthy eating and healthy living, Vetri Community Partnership (VCP) empowers children and families to lead healthier lives through fresh food, hands-on experiences and education. JOB SUMMARY EAT360 Educators work with K-8 schools in Philadelphia to engage families and community leaders. They employ evidence-based health promotion activities to connect with and recruit 10,000 participants annually. Our direct education sessions with students and adults generate over 6,000 experiences throughout the school year. EAT360 programming is funded through PA SNAP-Ed and aligns with the SNAP-Ed goal, “To improve the likelihood that persons eligible for SNAP will make healthy food choices within a limited budget and choose physically active lifestyles.” Educators bring this mission to life, playing a vital role in identifying relevant and achievable goals with each site, facilitating the creation of action plans, and celebrating site success stories or milestones. EAT360 Educator task breakdown  60% Lead nutrition education sessions  25% Recruit participants and prepare for education sessions  15% Initiate and maintain key community partnerships in assigned partner schools. The EAT360 programming follows the school year schedule. Mid-June through MidAugust Educators will be reassigned to EAT360 planning activities and lead nutrition education sessions for other VCP programs in order to maintain a year-long schedule. SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES  Achieve Excellence in Teaching o Recruit adults and youth from assigned sites. o Schedule programs (with input from supervisor) to be convenient for participants. o Assess the needs, interests, and abilities of participants. o Understand the factors that influence an individual’s food behavior. o Limit program content to PA SNAP-Ed list of approved materials o Stay current in SNAP-Ed topics. o Plan and prepare lesson plans, activities, and materials based on participants’ needs, interests, age, and abilities. o Engage participants in hands-on learning to achieve program outcomes. o Use creative teaching techniques that build on participants’ learning styles (ways of learning), strengths, prior knowledge, and skills. o Create respectful learning environments in which learners feel comfortable to participate. o Help participants set goals using new information and skills. o Encourage participants to increase food and nutrition-related skills and become more independent. o Acknowledge participants’ success. o Use evaluation results to focus programming and improve teaching skills/techniques.  Understand and Respect Diversity o Respect and value people’s differences. o Remain objective and avoid imposing one’s own values on others. o Meet the nutrition education needs of SNAP eligible learners of diverse race, ethnicity, gender, age, language, education level, sexual orientation, and disabilities. o Meet civil rights requirements.  Conduct Program Evaluation o Use State-approved evaluation forms and methods for collecting participant and program outcome information. o Meet expected goals for participation/caseload as designated by supervisor. o Provide constructive feedback to supervisors/State leaders on program effectiveness.  Maintain Accurate Records and Reports o Submit records and reports neatly, accurately, completely, and on time. o Document time and travel regularly on appropriate forms. o Secure and submit participant signatures indicating consent for photographs, and/or other personal information that may be used to improve programming.  Maintain Effective Internal and External Partnerships o Know community demographics, resources, needs, and issues. o Build and maintain effective partnerships with other community health agencies that address SNAP audiences such as FPAC, Coalition Against Hunger, Playworks. o Respect the missions of partner agencies. o Understand and follow program Memoranda of Understanding and/or collaborative agreements. o Communicate regularly with partnering agencies in assigned sites to coordinate services. o Respond to agency referrals in a timely manner and report follow-up with the person/agency that made the referral. o Refer participants to the SNAP Program, Extension programs, and other appropriate community resources. o Strengthen programming by involving program champions.  Demonstrate Technology Literacy o Demonstrate basic computer skills including use of Microsoft Office Suite, Google Suite, AirTable forms and Zoom. o Use basic office equipment including assigned laptop, scanner and copier. o Use SharePoint cloud storage as approved by supervisor. o Use audiovisual equipment and materials appropriately in teaching inperson and virtually. o Enter data accurately. REQUIREMENTS  Minimum one-year teaching, counseling or coaching experience with schoolaged children OR working/volunteering with a non-profit, public health or nutrition related organization.  Experience with FNS funded programs is strongly preferred  Must be able to deliver in-person programming in Philadelphia during normal school hours, Monday through Friday. Availability for night and weekend assignments also required as needed.  Valid driver’s license is mandatory.  Reliable transportation required.  Ability to work in an often physically demanding environment which includes standing, walking, and lifting up to 40 pounds  Educators must complete necessary clearances - PA State Police Criminal Background Check, Child Abuse Background Check, and FBI Fingerprinting  Proof of COVID-19 vaccination required. (Religious and medical exemptions apply) EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:  Bachelor’s degree in related field, or comparable professional experience in lieu of degree  Professional studies or college-level coursework in health, nutrition across the lifecycle, food resource management, community food access, community food systems, basic cooking skills, public health, food safety, preferred.
