EXCITE Program Assistant

The College of Agricultural Sciences is seeking self-motivated, reliable, compassionate individual with the drive to make a positive difference, to join Penn State Extension's Food, Families (FFH), and Health EXCITE (Extension Collaboration on Immunization Teaching and Engagement) initiative. The goals of the EXCITE initiative are to strengthen immunization education, address adult vaccination hesitancy, and to promote the uptake of COVID-19 vaccinations through community engagement with the targeted priority population Latinx adults, especially the Latinx agricultural workers and their families.

The individual will conduct pilot testing for project messaging and/or products, deliver culturally-tailored health education and disseminate information about vaccines to Latinx adults and serve as a bridge between their communities and the project team and collaborators. Will also assist with formative and impact evaluation data collection. The individual must be self-motivated, reliable, and compassionate, with the ability to make connections to develop and build partnerships in the community, recruit local agencies for programming locations, and educate Latinx adults within specified counties.

Must have connections to the communities and the ability to relate to the clients served, and a desire to facilitate/teach and influence individuals to increase level of trust and safety in the COVID-19 and other adult vaccinations. Candidates must possess effective verbal and written communication skills, teaching skills, interpersonal skills, the ability to build effective working relationships with colleagues and clientele, supervision skills, and work as an active member of a team. Must be fluent in Spanish and English. The candidate must be very organized and able to manage multiple projects simultaneously. Experience or the ability to apply cultural/ethnic principles into extension will be helpful. The candidate must be able to carry equipment, and educational materials and supplies, with or without accommodation, and have the ability to travel.

This position will be filled as a level 1 or level 2, depending upon the successful candidate's competencies, education, and experience. Typically requires a High School diploma or higher, or an equivalent combination of education and experience for a level 1. Additional experience and/or education and competencies are required for higher level jobs. This is a limited-term appointment funded until June 30, 2023.

This position requires the following clearances: PA State Police Criminal Background Check, PA Child Abuse History Clearance Form, and Federal (FBI) Fingerprint Criminal Background Check. The candidate also must possess a valid driver's license and have use of a private vehicle. Since the position requires operating a motor vehicle as part of the job duties, successful completion of a motor vehicle records check will be required in addition to the three clearances.
