Overview of Teach Plus

The mission of Teach Plus is to empower excellent, experienced, and diverse teachers to take leadership over key policy and practice issues that affect their students’ success. The organization empowers expert teachers to advance policy changes and improve instructional leadership and teacher supports; trains and coaches teacher leaders to successfully mobilize and lead teacher teams; and empowers teacher leaders to be change agents among their peers and policy makers. Since 2009, Teach Plus has trained thousands of teacher leaders across the country who are driving policy changes and improving the instructional practices of teachers to create an education system driven by equity, access, and excellence for all students. 

 

Internship Description

The Teach Plus federal policy team works with teacher leaders and Teach Plus staff to advance state and national education policies that benefit both students and teachers. Teach Plus supports policy initiatives based on the interests and work of Teach Plus teacher leaders including teacher diversity, teacher preparation, high quality early childhood education, and others.  Reporting to the National Policy Specialist, the Policy Intern will support the federal policy team and serve as a resource to Teach Plus teacher leaders and staff. This is a part-time internship through March 2022 with possibility for renewal. 

 

Responsibilities 

  • Track, analyze, and communicate relevant legislative and regulatory activity to teachers and Teach Plus staff.
  • Coordinate and attend legislative and regulatory work with partner organizations.
  • Policy writing and research support by editing policy summaries, legislative text, and providing guidance for teachers and Teach Plus staff.
  • Support the National Policy and Advocacy Board (NPAB) by coordinating meetings with the NPAB, supporting NPAB teachers in Congressional meetings and roundtable discussions between the NPAB and outside speakers.
  • Track and report congressional and external meetings.
  • Support ad hoc policy projects and activities as needed.

 

Desired Qualifications

  • At least two years of education experience, which could include, but is not limited to teaching, graduate school studies, or working in an education organization.
  • Experience with education policy or public policy, preferred. 
  • Demonstrated proficiency in writing and editing reports and other written materials.

 

Internship Details

This is a part-time, paid internship. The internship will start immediately and will continue through the end of March 2022 with possibility of renewal. Time commitment is relatively flexible, but a commitment of 10-20 hours per week (based on intern’s availability) is required. This internship is remote and can be conducted from any location.
