About the Role

Your job will be to sustain and cultivate EdLoC’s network of values-aligned leaders of color and strengthen and facilitate opportunities for collective action and individual learning and advancement. You will connect a national network of leaders of color at the intersection of economic, racial, and social equity work who are passionate about building generational wealth for young people of color from low-income communities. 

The ideal candidate is a seasoned professional and coach who is comfortable working cross-functionally independently or leading a team. Reporting to the Chief Network Officer, this position offers an exceptional opportunity to ensure catalyzing collaborative action towards equity-centered transformational policies and practices. Specific responsibilities include: 

  1. Member Support and Development (40%)
  • Support meaningful member engagement opportunities and measure their success by collecting and analyzing data that evaluates the effectiveness of established programs and new initiatives. 
  • Implement EdLoC’s long-term vision, strategy development and evolution, including broadening the membership base to include social capital and wealth-building allies, while positioning the network at the intersection of social justice, economic prosperity, and racial equity.
  • Build relationships with EdLoC members to inform EdLoC’s public agenda and organizational strategy.
  • Create a learning and development strategy that aligns to EdLoC’s organizational goals and our members' needs. 
  • Manage the implementation and delivery of programming, including the use of expert third-party facilitators.
  • Oversee efforts to provide external coaching to individual members, focused initially on Boulder Fund recipients, while helping to scale the program to meet the needs of membership at-large.
  • Develop unique and meaningful opportunities for Boulder Fund recipients to receive targeted professional development and support, learn from one another, and exchange best practices with the broader EdLoC network.
  • Cultivate relationships with EdLoC members, external stakeholders, and subject matter experts, and collaborate to create engaging and varied learning resources--including train-the-trainer materials, learning aids, presentations, discussion guides, and leadership forums. 
  • Supervise and advise members across the network to ensure effectiveness within their roles and help them grow as professionals.
  • Curate and execute professional and personal skill-building experiences for a culturally diverse cohort of practitioners, focused on fostering cross-racial solidarity, and encouraging action that advances EdLoC values and thought leadership.
  • Create and facilitate gatherings/events to build member connections, skills, and capacities, including webinars, networking events, space for consultation, etc.
  1. Network Building (25%)
  • Support organizational efforts focused on documentation and storytelling about where member leaders and member-led organizations are successfully leading with EdLoC Third Values in the areas of socioeconomic equity and wealth building.
  • Design strategies for communicating EdLoC’s mission and status as a thought leader at the intersection of socioeconomic prosperity, racial equity, and social justice, to address generational poverty. 
  • Build strong understanding of EdLoC’s members and their needs by maintaining continuous touchpoints.
  • Develop and implement a membership plan that outlines different levels of membership, member benefits and expectations, and results in membership expansion and retention.
  • Design and implement strategies for member recruitment, engagement, and retainment.
  • Represent the organization with network members, partners, funders, and the broader community.
  • Participate in coalitions, networks, and convening spaces related to wealth building for young people of color from low-income communities.
  • Develop and maintain network database and reporting requirements.
  • Grow EdLoC membership by 20% per year.
  1. Guide and Provide Thought Partnership on EdLoC’s Membership Engagement (20%)
  • Engage in strategic conversations about how to evolve membership structures, membership growth, methods for broadening our reach and connections within ed-adjacent sectors, and inclusive engagement approaches.
  • Build, implement, and maintain a framework for evaluating membership engagement, defining metrics of success, and tracking change over time.
  • Implement and continuously improve platforms that facilitate and promote organic, decentralized EdLoC member organizing and advocacy outside the confines of EdLoC’s core support offerings.
  • Work with the Chief Network Officer to manage partnership relationships, particularly as they relate to benefits for members.
  • Collect member input on EdLoC’s annual work plan.
  1. Direct EdLoC’s National Convening (15%)

 

 

  • In collaboration with EdLoC leadership and staff, develop the annual National Convening themes and vision and ensure that they are fully woven throughout the convening programming.
  • Produce all conference plenary programming, curating a diverse, compelling set of presentations, while managing all aspects of speaker engagement, from invitation, to preparation, to on-site support.
  • Lead the selection and secure the participation of excellent, diverse, thought-provoking speakers who conduct engaging and transformational sessions, workshops, and panels.
  • Liaise with host city partners to provide strategic guidance and ensure a predictable, productive, positive experience for EdLoC members and guests. 
  • Oversee staff and outside consultants to execute a logistically seamless event.
  • Manage all major contracts and negotiations for the convening, including for the hotel and/or venue, event firms, and other consultant support.
  • Develop and oversee the internal processes for annually setting a vision and executing a successful convening in line with EdLoC’s organizational values.
  • Oversee annual host city selection process, from RFP to interviews and onboarding.
  • Evaluate and refine EdLoC’s internal processes for convening planning and execution.
  • Oversee staff in refining, promoting, and supporting processes to ensure a consistent, predictable speaker preparation process and that all speakers and attendees have a positive, enriching experience.

Qualifications & Attributes 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Public Policy, Communications, or related field. Master’s degree preferred. 
  • Experienced professional, with 5 -10 years of managerial experience leading projects and or a team in a nonprofit, education, philanthropy, or grassroots setting. 
  • Enthusiastic about elevating leaders of color who have demonstrated a clear and consistent impact on expanding access to wealth-building opportunities for young people of color from low-income communities.
  • Problem-solver and critical thinker, who can synthesize information, ask insightful questions, think on your feet, and spot trends quickly. 
  • Creative thinker, joyful collaborator, self-starter, and detail-oriented communicator, with a positive approach, can-do attitude, and a sense of humor.  
  • Confident in a variety of client-facing roles--able to work with everyone from a district Superintendent to the director of a two-person nonprofit, to the C-suite of education consulting firms. 
  • Proven leader, as well as a strong presenter and meeting facilitator, who understands how to form meaningful relationships with diverse parties and can “sell” EdLoC to others.  
  • Self-driven independent contributor and team leader with program management experience. 
  • Think quickly and creatively, effectively manage projects with a variety of stakeholders, allocate resources across numerous disciplines, and calmly juggle competing priorities. 
  • Able to leverage technology and supporting the adoption of systems. Excellent computer and technology skills, including proficiency with MS Office suite and familiarity with using databases and online project management tools; must be comfortable learning and using new technology. 
  • Takes initiative and owns outcomes personally and collectively. 
  • Passionate about continuous improvement, personal development, and a history of executing on feedback to elevate performance.  
  • Willingness and ability to exceed the “typical” job expectations on specific occasions (i.e., work late hours and/or weekends when project deadlines, events, or travel require it).
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus. 

The Director of Network Culture and Engagement is a full-time remote position.  Fully functioning home office required. Travel expected 10% of the time.

Salary and Benefits

  • Salary for this role falls between $110,000 and $140,000, commensurate with relevant experience and qualifications.
  • Monthly stipends to support remote engagement.
