Reports to: Public Affairs Manager   

Position Category: Full time/Non-exempt   

Salary: $17.51/hour

Position Description: The Grassroots Organizing Coordinator is responsible for managing FWHC’s voter registration, civic engagement, and grassroots organizing activities. The Organizing Coordinator identifies, trains, and provides opportunities for community and volunteer development in order to strengthen the movements for reproductive health, rights and justice. The Grassroots Organizing Coordinator supports other Community Education & Advocacy Network (CEAN) programs, including leadership development, legislative advocacy, and other education and outreach projects. The Grassroots Organizing Coordinator is responsible for representing the CEAN department in our community.  

Essential Responsibilities: This position is responsible for the following main areas. Other duties may be assigned. 

Voter Registration & Civic Engagement

  • Assist with the development and coordination of voter registration, GOTV, and civic engagement organizing strategies and activities 
  • Recruit, orient, and engage supporters and volunteers and activate them into community outreach and grassroots advocacy activities 
  • Recruit, orient, and engage supporters and volunteers and activate them into organizational support activities, in coordination with Leadership Development Manager 
  • Assist with identifying key constituencies or community partners and cultivating partnerships in support of reproductive rights, health and justice 
  • Represent FWHC in coalitions, tables, community events, speaking engagements, and other functions as deemed appropriate by the Community Outreach Manager 
  • Maintain files and ensure timely data input of base-member records 
  • Supervise quality control and delivery of voter registration, GOTV, and GOTC cards 
  • Create content for the FWHC website, social media, alerts, listserv messages, etc., with support from Marketing and Communications staff  

Advocacy & Base-Building

  • Assist with the development and coordination of grassroots organizing strategies and activities 
  • Assist with mobilizing new activists and increasing activism among existing members, in coordination with Public Affairs Coordinator 
  • Assist with identifying key contacts in targeted communities, developing leaders on the ground, and implementing mobilization strategies, in coordination with Public Affairs Manager 
  • Administer and maintain records for FWHC’s email outreach and advocacy network, database, customer relationship management system (EveryAction), etc. 
  • Create timelines/task lists and implement grassroots advocacy activities such as lobby days, rallies, mailing parties, letter-writing campaigns, and house parties, in coordination with Public Affairs Manager 
  • Plan and implement external volunteer engagement activities such as tabling, community events, and other activities 
  • Coordinate and connect program participants to direct services and resources at the Cliff Valley Clinic and other community partners  
  • Work on special projects as assigned

Knowledge, Skills, and Other Abilities:  

  • Understanding of and commitment to reproductive health, rights, and justice issues.  
  • Direct experience with social justice, organizing, and/or movement building work is required.  
  • Experience with volunteer engagement, civic engagement, voter education, and/or legislative advocacy is preferred.  
  • Experience with racial justice centering anti-blackness, inter-sectional analysis, TGNC, youth organizing, immigrant rights, disability justice, and/or LGBT movements.  
  • Ability & willingness to accommodate a flexible schedule, including some nights & weekends.

  • Depending on location, a combination of in-office and virtual office at this time. Must be able to participate in online virtual communications including email, video conferencing, and other online tools used to facilitate virtual office culture and work sharing.  
  • Must be able to conduct business in English; however, fluency in languages other than English is a plus.  
  • This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, and scanners. Employee is regularly required to communicate effectively via computer, via phone, and in person.  
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
