Job Details

The Georgia Legal Services Program (GLSP) is a nonprofit corporation whose mission is to provide civil legal services for persons with low incomes, creating equal access to justice and opportunities out of poverty. GLSP seeks a Staff Attorney to serve in the Gainesville Regional Office. 

The Legal Assistance to Victims attorney will provide civil legal representation in cases for victims of crime, including TPOs, divorces, custody, child support, housing, property divisions and other civil legal services, including cases to secure economic stability such as Medicaid, SNAP, TANF, and other benefits and coordination of services and referrals for victims of crime. Specifically, the Staff Attorney will:

· Provide civil legal representation to victims of domestic violence, stalking, sexual assault and dating violence by handling cases in state, federal court, and administrative forums;

· Circuit ride to outlying counties to meet clients in their communities to facilitate legal representation;

· Refer clients as needed for immigration assistance, including T-Visas, U- Visas, and VAWA applications as appropriate;

· Help develop referral and collaboration partnerships as needed for other community services available, including immigration screening and representation, safety planning, shelter, law enforcement assistance, victim assistance, counseling, benefits, and any other community services to assist in safety and economic security.

· Maintain records and data on GLSP's case management system and for the Legal Assistance to Victims grant for research, development, and project activity purposes;

· Help to recruit and support pro bono attorneys to assist victims of crime with their legal needs;

· Assist to create, catalog, and publish in a variety of formats a directory of existing holistic resource programs for victims of crimes;

· Facilitate presentations to bar associations and groups of attorneys promoting development of and participation in holistic civil pro bono program for victims of crime;

· Attend statewide and national meetings, trainings, and conferences as budgetary and grant requirements support;

· Help develop referral and collaboration partnerships as needed for other community services available, including immigration screening and representation, safety planning, shelter, law enforcement assistance, victim assistance, counseling, benefits, and any other community services to assist in safety and economic security.

· Maintain records and data on GLSP's case management system and for the Legal Assistance to Victims grant for research, development, and project activity purposes;
