DEVELOPMENT DIRECTOR JOB DESCRIPTION

WHAT IS COLTURA?

Coltura is a nonprofit organization founded in 2014 that accelerates the transition from gasoline to cleaner alternatives. Gasoline is a leading source of carbon and air pollution, affecting disadvantaged communities and communities of color first and worst. Moving beyond gasoline and moving beyond it its use is critical for health, equity and climate. Coltura leads diverse coalitions to advance policies to rapidly decrease gasoline use while advancing equity. It conducts original research on gasoline policy issues and produces and curates cultural works that advance the beyond-gasoline narrative.

OPPORTUNITY:

This is an extraordinary opportunity for a creative builder to work with a growing, nimble and effective organization leading the movement to advance climate, health and equity by ending the use of gasoline. The Director of Development will adapt, build, and administer structures to supercharge the fundraising efforts of the organization. They will play an important role in ensuring that Coltura is resourced to support the beyond gasoline movement and grows as an innovative and impactful organization.

RESPONSIBILITIES - FUNDRAISING STRATEGY/MANAGEMENT/IMPLEMENTATION

  • Work with leadership and board to develop and implement a comprehensive, multi-year development strategy.
  • Build and manage a diverse donor pipeline from prospect identification through cultivation, solicitation, and donor stewardship.
  • Develop effective fundraising communications over multiple platforms.
  • Develop stewardship methods to maximize loyalty of donors.
  • Identify areas of growth for organization funding.
  • Manage a detailed and accurate donor database: gift entry, tracking, reporting, and acknowledgment system. Coltura uses Little Green Light.
  • Help plan fundraising events and support them through training, administration, day-of-event oversight and follow up.
  • Prepare strategy and debriefing materials for meetings with donors and prospects.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A minimum of four years’ fundraising experience in progressive nonprofits;
  • Successful track record of developing fundraising initiatives to drive sustainable and diverse revenue streams;
  • Demonstrated success cultivating donor relationships, stewarding, and soliciting major gifts and implementing planned giving programs;
  • Experience leading relationships with government and foundation funders, including oversight of successful grant proposals;
  • Fluency in social media applications and digital fundraising;
  • Experience conceiving, planning and overseeing events;
  • Excellent verbal, written and presentation skills with the ability to describe funding needs in a compelling way;
  • Expertise in development best practice systems, structures, policies and procedures, including developing and managing fundraising plans and operational budgets;
  • Attention to detail.

Work Environment

We are presently a remote organization, with Co-Executive Directors based in Washington State and California. The work environment will require virtual technology (Microsoft Teams).
