Job Details

Organization: Compass Family Services helps homeless families and families at imminent risk for homelessness to achieve housing stability, family well-being, and self-sufficiency. Our services include emergency shelter, transitional housing, rapid rehousing, behavioral health services, parenting education and support, workforce services, early childhood education and care, and more. We have served the San Francisco community for over 100 years.

Program: Compass Clara House is a service-enriched transitional housing program for homeless families. Families live for 6 - 18 months in private apartments during which time parents engage in educational and vocational programming which lays the framework for a living wage career. The program provides a licensed on-site childcare center and a licensed after school program as well as an array of support services.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Program Director is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the services provided by Compass Clara House, Compass Family Services’ transitional housing program for homeless families. Specific duties include the following:

Administrative:

  • Directly responsible for program/policy development and all aspects of quality assurance
  • Oversee supervision of all staff and provide direct supervision to Assistant Program Director, Childcare Coordinator, Bilingual Case Manager, Bilingual Aftercare Case Manager, and Site Monitors
  • Facilitate weekly staff meetings
  • Provide opportunities for staff development and training
  • Interview, hire and, when necessary, administer progressive discipline, for program staff and interns
  • Be available for crisis intervention and case consultation as needed
  • Manage performance evaluation process for all staff, including directly administer performance evaluations to direct reports
  • Collaborate with the Finance Department to construct annual budgets and oversee the implementation of the budget
  • Represent the agency to the community, outside agencies, service provider groups, committees and funders
  • Complete all reporting obligations for program
  • Maintain program schedule, attendance and vacation schedules of staff and provide or assign coverage during staff absences
  • Collaborate with Compass Family Services management team in the context of monthly Program Director’s meetings, annual retreats and ongoing contact
  • Ensure that all aspects of childcare and afterschool programs are run in full compliance with Community Care Licensing and the Office of Early Care & Education.

Client support:

  • Work with program team to create and maintain a supportive and healthy residential community
  • Regularly scheduled goal review meetings with residents and their case managers
  • Facilitate bi-weekly community meetings for residents and schedule monthly parent education and self-care workshops for families
  • Be available to clients as needed
  • Collaborate with HSH and other service providers for policy and program changes
  • Coordinate the program’s intake process and ensure timely and efficient turnover of units
  • Schedule community programming for families, including special events

Minimum Qualifications:

  • B.A. or relevant experience in social work or a related field
  • At least 2 years of experience in staff supervision and the ability to create and foster a healthy, inspiring and supportive working environment
  • Clinical experience working with families in crisis
  • Excellent interpersonal, listening and communication skills
  • Excellent work habits: punctual, reliable, cooperative, team-oriented
  • Ability to work independently
  • Excellent writing and organizational skills
  • Computer skills
  • Deep commitment to and demonstrated success discussing, integrating, and promoting diversity, equity, inclusion and belonging throughout a complex and dynamic organization.

Location and Covid Considerations:

The Program Director is based at Compass Clara House in San Francisco's Hayes Valley neighborhood. Compass has a wide range of precautions in place to keep everyone healthy and safe on-site, including mandated face coverings, increased cleaning schedules, enhanced air filtration, and daily Covid self-screening. Compass also requires proof of vaccination or twice weekly Covid testing for all employees.
