Make the Road Nevada (MRNV), builds power for justice in Latinx and immigrant communities and working-class communities of color. We believe in a transformational theory of change that seeks to empower community members to be the principal agents and leaders in challenging and dismantling systemic oppression through community organizing, policy innovation, transformative education, as well as civic engagement and advocacy. Make the Road NV is a project of Make the Road States.

Make the Road Action (MRA), a 501(c)(4) organization is committed to building power for justice in immigrant and low-income working-class communities of color. MRA operates in five states - New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Nevada, and Pennsylvania. We work to create social change, connect voters to the candidates and issues that are most important to them, and work hands-on in a fast-paced environment to create long-term impact in the communities that need it most. 

The Role:

The Civic Engagement Director is a senior leadership position and will be charged with developing and implementing statewide civic engagement and democracy strategies and programs to build long term power for our membership.The Civic Engagement Director provides leadership and ongoing coaching, training, supervision and support to the organizing team. In collaboration with the Executive Director, the Civic Engagement Director will implement the organization’s non-partisan civic engagement strategy with the organizing and comms team. They will make sure we are meeting campaign goals, strategies, and meeting deliverables. They will interpret civic engagement and voting record data, develop strategies and tools to assist the team in the implementation of programs and review and evaluate innovations for public mobilization and integrated voter education and engagement. The Civic Engagement Director will work in collaboration with the State Director, Deputy State Director, and our Development Director to identify and secure additional funds for civic engagement activities and grow the department’s budget & staff. Lastly, they will manage large initiatives, execute sophisticated trainings and conferences, develop strategic plans to demonstrate our grassroots power and represent the organization in coalition meetings and state tables.

Key Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Programmatic work
    • Identify trends and insights in civic engagement and democracy to share with our staff, and integrate into our work 
    • Advocate across the organization to incorporate civic engagement best practices into our work
    • Coordinate and manage programs such as voter registration and the voter education & mobilization programs 
    • Develop, strengthen and educate the organization's members, leads and staff on the civic engagement and democracy work
  • Lead the field team during elections
    • Provide supervision and support for the field team
    • Provide development for direct supervisees and canvassing team
    • Support the supervisee in their supervision of the canvassing team
    • Hold field team accountable
    • Create open and inclusive dialogue with organizing team
  • Fundraising Responsibilities
    • Increase opportunities for funding
    • Work in collaboration with Development Director to write LOIs, RFPs, grant proposals, budgets, and grant reports
    • Engage in conversations with funders
    • Fundraise for department and programmatic work
  • Cross base alliance and organizational cohesion
    • Builds coherence across the campaigns and programs
    • Find opportunities for campaigns to connect and how they intersect
    • Coordinate with Organizing Director to work cohesively with the organizing team
  • Organizational building with coalitions and close allies and partners
    • Maintain, manage and develop strategic partners and allies to support broad organizational campaigns and goals to create the best possible space for workers to organize
    • Deliver key relationships with allies to the organizing and campaigns
    • Coordinate allies to support campaign work as needed 
    • Engage multiple stakeholders including membership base, elected officials, funders and organizational leaders in the social justice field
    • Represent the organization in external and internal meetings, coalitions tables, state tables, conferences, etc.
  • Coordinate, facilitate (when necessary) and execute with appropriate staff lead meetings, this includes, but is not limited to:
    • Staff Meetings
    • Staff Retreats 
    • Endorsement Committee 
    • Senior Leadership Team meetings

Qualifications:

  • Eligible to work in the US
  • Have a minimum of a high school diploma or equivalent work experience
  • Bilingual: English-Spanish (written and spoken) is required
  • At least 2-3 years of proven experience supervising, campaign development and/or similar
  • Demonstrated commitment to social justice, community organizing, leadership development and the elevation of directly impacted and marginalized people to create change
  • Ability to work evenings and some weekends

 Salary and Benefits:

Salary range is $60,000-$65,0000. MRStates offers an excellent benefit package including health insurance, 401K, and generous paid vacation, sick, personal days.
