Position Summary

The SFO Paralegal provides legal services and support to survivors of IPA and will work closely with the SFO team to ensure SFO's operational success. Provides litigation support primarily to SFO attorneys and secondarily to volunteer attorneys when needed.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Prepares, drafts, and files pleadings, correspondence, and other legal documents.
  • Provides support to SFO Administrator in the coordination and triaging of clients' needs and intake process.
  • Keeps client and party records updated in Salesforce.
  • Assists SFO in-house and volunteer attorneys in interviewing and preparing clients and witnesses for TPO hearings, gathering and organizing evidence, and preparing exhibits and other pleadings.
  • Assists SFO attorneys with the supervision of legal interns and volunteers.
  • Assists SSF Team with AVLF IPA training.
  • Ensures TPO best practices for service and approves private process server requests.
  • Builds and maintains relationships, including through after-hours networking events, with all project partners, including Fulton County Court personnel, law enforcement, and PADV.

Education and Experience

Bachelor's degree; or Associate’s degree in paralegal studies or a paralegal certificate and one (1) to three (3) years of related experience.

Knowledge and Skill Requirements

  • Experience working with and advocating for survivors of intimate partner abuse preferred
  • Experience working with clients of diverse racial, cultural, and socio-economic backgrounds preferred
  • Experience working in a fast-paced legal environment preferred
  • Excellent critical-thinking, problem-solving, and organizational skills
  • The capacity to manage multiple projects and assignments simultaneously, often with competing deadlines
  • Excellent communication skills, including ability to communicate clearly with a wide range of people to both understand, support, and convey the clients’ and advocates’ needs
  • Strong collaborative skills
  • Ability to derive creative solutions
  • Must be respectful and responsive to cultural beliefs and practices within a client’s community
  • Attention to detail and a commitment to executing with excellence
  • Must be organized and able to prioritize clients' needs effectively
  • Proficient with MS Office Suite. Experience using Salesforce is a plus

Working Conditions

Some ability to work remotely, depending on staffing on-site at Safe Families Office.  Works in a fast-paced environment, which requires multi-tasking.  May require bending and prolonged sitting and/or standing.
