Job Details

Summary   

The Deputy Director serves as a member of the agency’s leadership team, oversees all programs and client services, and provides leadership and supervision to program management and staff.

In addition to the agency’s services, the Deputy Director assists the Chief Operating Officer in implementing and executing the agency’s strategic and tactical plans and policies.

Primary Responsibilities 

  • Works as directed to support the HOPE Atlanta organization and team members
  • Assists Chief Operating Officer with the oversight and direction of daily program operations:
  • Oversees all agency housing and hunger programs and homeless services
  • Evaluates crisis intervention services and comprehensive case management
  • Oversees case management performance and client results
  • Monitors the evaluation process for all programs
  • Reviews the client placement environment
  • Provides the highest level of support and assistance to the Chief Operating Officer and his/her direct reports with department-wide tasks, assigning tasks and reports to optimize workflow of Chief Operating Officer’s office
  • Manages administrative functions to ensure smooth and efficient operations of the agency
  • Reviews staff activities for program assessment
  • Works with Chief Operating Officer to ensure performance goals are set and met
  • Identifies required training and resources for program staff members
  • Monitors grant compliance and monthly program deliverables
  • Assists in leading program monitoring and audits
  • Assists in the development, implementation and management of agency policies
  • Analyzes administrative and operational functions; reviews policies and procedures systems for efficiency; recommends appropriate changes and system improvements to Chief Operating Officer
  • Monitors activities and staff of main and satellite offices
  • Delivers presentations to external organizations promoting HOPE Atlanta when needed
  • Informs the Chief Operating Officer of situations and conflicts requiring immediate attention and when appropriate
  • Fulfills duties delegated by Chief Operating Officer
  • Serves on the organization’s leadership team and participates in strategic and tactical planning as required and appropriate

Additional Responsibilities 

  • Ensures adherence to professional standards as outlined by Employee Handbook and other professional associations 
  • Assists in the agency’s CARF accreditation process, compliance, and monitoring
  • Participates in county, state and federal planning as required 
  • Assists in fund raising opportunities and participates in agency donor and community events as required  

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities 

Knowledge

  • Strong leadership, organization, problem solving and critical thinking skills
  • Excellent written, verbal communication and presentation skills
  • Understanding of grants, grant writing

Skills

  • Proficient in MS Office Suite (Word, Power Point, Excel)
  • Experience in utilizing a Homeless Information Management System Client Track and/or database systems, etc.
  • Experience in creating and implementing tactical plans
  • Effective communication skills

Ability

  • To evaluate systems and processes and implement a process improvement plan
  • To communicate the agency’s vision, mission and values
  • To evaluate, coach, develop and train staff

  

Education  

 

  • Masters degree in Social Work, Non-profit Management, Business, or related fields
  • Clinical Social Work Licensure preferred
  • Five-years’ management and supervisory experience overseeing a staff of 5 or more.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience working in an agency providing homeless and/or hunger services 
  • Valid Driver’s License and reliable transportation
