Founded in 1981 in partnership with whistleblowers, the Project On Government Oversight (POGO) is a nonpartisan independent watchdog that works to expose waste, corruption, abuse of power, and when the government fails to serve the public or silences those who report wrongdoing. We champion reforms to achieve a more effective, ethical, and accountable federal government that safeguards constitutional principles. POGO has an annual budget of more than $6 million, which supports a staff of over 45 employees.

POGO’s Investigations and Research team is looking for a talented Researcher to both drive and support work across the organization’s programmatic teams. The Researcher is responsible for monitoring current events across the federal government, executing original research projects using government and open-source data and writing up key findings for publication on the organization’s website. The Researcher reports to the Director of Investigations and Research.

  • Work with the civic engagement, communications, and creative teams to develop talking points, social media, and data visualizations for the public facing products they produce.
  • Other duties as needed or required.

Qualifications include:

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience executing investigations or data/information-driven research projects for a non-profit organization or news media publication.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work on internal teams, across external organizations, and independently when necessary.
