The Georgia Academy of Family Physicians (GAFP) seeks a dynamic, self-directed, and experienced professional to oversee all aspects of GAFP’s communications.  The Georgia Academy is a non-profit membership association with 3,200 family medicine physicians, residents and medical student members across the state. Our mission is to promote the health of the citizens of Georgia by advancing the specialty of family medicine through education, advocacy, and service to family physicians.

The Director of Communications will be responsible for planning, writing, designing, and distributing all the Georgia Academy’s various communications, and for maintaining and developing content for . This employee will develop and implement the organization’s marketing and public relations campaigns. This employee will publish content that informs members about topics relevant to family physicians, that engages members in the work of the association, and that promotes the specialty of family medicine.

  • This position requires the ability to manage complex projects while working with teams both inside and outside the organization.
  • This position requires an emphasis on writing concise and effective informational and promotional copy, using digital media to reach target audiences, and developing comprehensive marketing strategies.
  • This employee must be eager to work as part of the organization to complete projects and coordinate efforts at the strategic and tactical levels with other GAFP departments and our foundation (the Georgia Healthy Family Alliance)

    Principle Accountabilities

  • Work with key staff to shape brand identity to promote GAFP and its various projects to its members, potential members, and the public.
  • Write news and human-interest stories for all GAFP communications media.
  • Design and publish electronic newsletters and email marketing campaigns.
  • Maintain and enhance GAFP’s web presence
  • Enhance GAFP’s social media presence to better engage members and promote family medicine.
  • Create and maintain production calendar for all GAFP marketing efforts, manage marketing and promotional efforts from conception to completion, and measure project outcomes.
  • Represent GAFP on various committees as assigned and staff GAFP committees as assigned.
  • Support the outreach and work of the Student and Resident Recruitment Committee (including meeting planning for annual Medical Student Workshop and National AAFP Conference).

Job Requirements

  • Demonstrated skill in writing concise, compelling informational, human interest, and promotional copy, and in planning and executing marketing and public relations campaigns.
  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, public relations, advertising, or related discipline.
  • Commitment to working in cross-functional teams and with multiple department managers.
