Position: Senior Development Associate

Resumes considered on a rolling basis, priority to resumes received by October 29, 2021

About MOVE and MOVE Action

The Missouri Organizing and Voter Engagement Collaborative (MOVE) is a nonpartisan hub providing strategic and technical support for grassroots organizing groups committed to voter engagement. MOVE’s role is behind-the-scenes, supporting existing movement organizations in developing and executing strategic integrated voter engagement plans. In doing so, MOVE coordinates the largest volunteer-led 501c3 integrated voter engagement program in Missouri.

Missouri Organizing and Voter Engagement Action (MOVE Action) fills one of the most significant gaps in Missouri’s progressive movement – providing a c4 data hub and coordinating backbone for organizations committed to 1) winning on major progressive campaigns in any given cycle and 2) building long-haul power towards political transformation in Missouri. Working through member organizations, we are building independent political power that drives integrated voter engagement programs across strategic regions and constituencies in Missouri to win on progressive ballot issues and priority campaigns.

This role will support both organizations.

About the Position

MOVE and MOVE Action seek a creative and strategic person as a Senior Development Associate. The Senior Development Associate will be responsible for leading the creation and execution of the organizations’ comprehensive development plan, with a focus on cultivation of foundations and institutional donors. This position is responsible for identifying and managing prospects capable of giving $25,000 and more over time and for cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding a portfolio of 45-70 prospective institutional donors. The Senior Development Associate will report to and work in close collaboration with the Executive Director.

Core Responsibilities

Meet agreed upon dollar goals for institution and foundation annual gifts.

Support the Executive Director’s major gift work with top institutional and foundation prospects.

Manage an annual grants calendar including writing and updating grant applications and reports.

Qualify an agreed upon number of prospects per month.

Manage regrants program, including making recommendations for large scale regrants to nonprofits advancing MOVE’s mission.

  • Clear, precise, compassionate communication and listening skills: Can effectively represent the organization with external stakeholders and donors. Produces compelling written materials: Aims for accuracy and attention to detail. Can learn, internalize, and incorporate our “voice” across platforms. Organizes and shares information effectively — whether writing an internal email or delivering a presentation.

Strong sense of ownership and resilience: Plans ahead and finds alternative paths, when needed, to get to the finish line. Bounces back from setbacks and rejections. Holds a high bar even when things are hectic.

Effective project management skills: Demonstrated ability to successfully execute complex projects, including setting goals and developing a realistic work plan. Move people to action and hold them accountable with and without formal authority. Highly organized and strong attention to detail. Proven ability to manage complex schedule and responsibilities with minimal support or oversight

Cultivates powerful relationships: Demonstrated capacity to build trust and alignment with potential investors. A proven track record of sustaining multiple fundraising prospects, particularly foundations and institutions, preferred.
