SUMMARY
The International Society of Arboriculture (ISA) is a non-profit membership organization that serves the needs of tree care professionals, and promotes the profession of arboriculture around the world. ISA is known as the industry authority on research, education and professional development. Each role in the organization plays an important part in delivering excellent member benefits and customer service.

The Membership Specialist is responsible for supporting the continued development and implementation of a strong member benefit offering along with membership growth and retention strategies designed to grow ISA overall membership. Partners with and cultivates relationships with chapters and other partners to achieve annual membership goals for recruitment and retention.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
• Understands ISA’s Mission and adheres to organization and staff core values.
• Develops and manages list of prospective ISA members.
• Partners with the marketing team in the development of marketing materials and messaging (digital and print) designed to promote ISA memberships.
• Implements new member onboarding and engagement efforts.
• Reports on member recruitment and retention and meets goals as set forth by the Director of Member Services and ISA Leadership.
• Executes retention strategies, including development and distribution of retention kits.
• Provides information and support to member communications initiatives.
• Represents ISA at industry events and tradeshows to promote membership.
• Serves as staff liaison to committees and tasks forces.
• Further develops ISA student memberships and student membership programs,
• Develops and analyzes surveys—to determine needs, identify opportunities, and gather data for improved decision making. Makes recommendations based on survey results.
• Oversees and processes member records and mailing lists; ensures data accuracy; maintains strict confidentiality.
• Creates and distributes progress reports on activity against targets, including growth projections, campaign effectiveness, and other relevant metrics; makes recommendations to improve campaign effectiveness.
• Utilizes database and other software to analyze membership patterns and test approaches to determine the most effective methods.
• Organizes electronic files within drives for ease of use and understanding. Other duties as assigned.
• Works in coordination with Component Relations Manager to support component membership needs and goals.

Education and/or Experience
• Bachelor’s degree in a related field, such as business, international studies, marketing, or communications or equivalent amount of relevant experience.
• At least three years marketing, development, volunteer management or business-related experience. Experience in membership, donor or alumni relations is preferable.  
• Record of successful experience in activities requiring customer service or member/customer relations.
• Knowledge of cultural aspects of other countries
 
Language Skills
• Fluent in English, both verbal and written.
• Strong preference for Spanish speaking and writing skills
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Ability to write correspondence in a professional manner.
• Ability to read and analyze information and draw conclusions.
 
Decision Making/Reasoning Ability
• Demonstrated ability to resolve problems with grace and diplomacy.
• Ability to complete projects accurately and completely within deadlines.
• Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written or oral format.
• Ability to take ambiguous data and information, analyze it and create a plan of action
• Responsible for asking for more information or details when the task or project is unclear.
• When problems or workload conflicts arise, work with the Director of Member Services to resolve problems and issues.
• Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, develop conclusions, and determine appropriate action plans.
• Able to work independently to complete projects without significant day-to-day supervision.
 
Additional Competencies
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, including the ability to present information in a variety of formats.
• Customer service orientation with good communication skills to develop positive working relationships with peers and team members.
• Strong project management, time management and organizational skills
• Understanding of common business domains, such as marketing and business operations.

• This position will require occasional travel within and outside the U.S.
• Must be able to remain in a stationary position 80% of the time.
• Moves about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc.
• Regularly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery such as calculator, copy machine, and computer printer.
• Frequently communicates with internal and external customers.
• This position requires occasional lifting, under 25 lbs.

• Working conditions are normal for an office environment.
• Work may require occasional weekend and/or evening work.

Technology and Equipment
• Microsoft Windows 7 and Office 2007 and/or 2010; proficient in Word, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint.
• Experience working with Multi-line phone system, skype, copier, postage machine, and web-based services.
• Ability to use database applications and the internet.

ISA is an equal opportunity employer. This position is located in Downtown Atlanta, GA and not normally eligible for remote work. Currently this position will be temporarily eligible for remote work due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
