Abode Services, one of the largest and most effective nonprofits working to end homelessness in the Bay Area, is seeking a skilled Housing Specialist.  

 

Job Summary:  

The Housing Specialist is responsible for locating housing units, working closely with landlords, collaborating with service providers, and providing general housing support to ensure that homeless individuals and/or families can secure and maintain housing.

How You Make an Impact:  

  • Provide housing search and move in assistance for unsheltered program participants in Santa Clara County focusing on household’s needs and goals. 
  • Recruit new landlords and maintain relationships with existing landlords. 
  • Approve all leases based on HUD lease standards and ensure landlords and program participants sign the housing assistance payment contract. 
  • Enter rental data into Salesforce database to ensure monthly rent checks are sent to landlords. 
  • Perform or arrange for Housing Quality Inspections (HQS’s) prior to move-in to ensure that housing unit is habitable (training provided). 
  • Ensure that all regulatory agreements, contracts, and fair housing laws are met as they relate to housing. 

 

How You Meet the Qualifications:  

  • Minimum of 1 year of sales or customer service experience. 
  • Experience working in housing field with strong knowledge of the Santa Clara County housing market and geography strongly preferred. 
  • Knowledge of federal, state and local fair housing laws. 
  • Excellent knowledge of computer systems. 
  • Clean DMV record required.  
  • This position requires the employee to be able to travel efficiently to various sites. The employee must also have own transportation for use in carrying out job responsibilities, provide proof of a valid and current CA driver's license, current auto insurance, and an acceptable Motor Vehicle Report. Background check is required.
