The Center for Popular Democracy/CPD Action is seeking a Movement Tools Manager.

The Center for Popular Democracy and CPD Action (together, CPD/A) work to promote equity, opportunity, and a dynamic democracy in partnership with innovative base-building organizations, organizing networks and alliances, and progressive unions across the country. About the Position:

Tools and data are critical to achieving CPD/A mission. We are seeking an experienced database, CRM, and tools administrator to support critical work internally and with our affiliates.

This Movement Tools Manager is the administrator for movement tools like New/Mode, Hustle, ThruTalk, and Strive. The Movement Tools Manager will also assist with data management in Every Action, and will with VAN administration and Mobilize setup as we get closer to the 2022 midterm elections. This is a frontline position on our cross departmental Data Team, and this individual will often be the first person staff and affiliates interact with when seeking help with these tools. Agility and strong communication skills are essential. 

The Movement Tools Manager will report to the Director of Technology and Operations but will work closely with the National Director of Data Initiatives, Basebuilding Data Director, CRM Manager, Data Analyst, digital organizers, and other end users. The Movement Tools Manager must be comfortable working with a cross departmental team. We anticipate this position will work closely with data and technology staff on developing protocols for tools and how we best support end users.

While we estimate about 6 years of experience in administering outreach tools, our focus will be on demonstrated experience and success, not years.

We will accept applications for this position through Thursday, October 21, 2021. We will then reach out to schedule first round interviews for the week of October 25th. Our hiring process includes a first round screening interview, a short exercise, a group interview, and a reference check. We hope to choose a final candidate the week of November 8th and welcome the Movement Tools Manager for their first day on December 1, 2021.

Our offices are currently closed due to the pandemic, and we are limiting non-essential in person gatherings. The Movement Tools Manager may travel from time to time for in-person trainings in the future. 

Primary Responsibilities

The Movement Tools Manager Will:

  • Train and support staff in the use of Hustle, ThruTalk, Strive Digital, and other tools including and best practices for using each tool and its data effectively.  Respond to support requests in a timely manner and escalate to other members of our cross departmental data team as needed. Develop training and other materials as needed to help CPD/A staff and affiliates use these common movement tools. Ensure data is clean and well-managed in various systems and tools, including de-duping, standardizing data, making sure data coming through pipelines and syncs are accurate, etc.

The Ideal Candidate Will Have:

  • Experience administering Hustle, ThruTalk, Strive Digital, New/Mode, and other progressive movement tools. Demonstrated experience in data management. Experience with EveryAction and/or NGPVAN MyCampaign. Ability to train and communicate technical concepts with non-technical people and in a culturally competent manner. Familiarity and hunger to follow and learn about new technologies that come on the progressive market. Comfort working across departments and teams. Creative problem-solving skills and a solutions oriented attitude when working with end users. A commitment to social, racial, and economic justice. 

Candidate Nice to Haves:

  • Experience with building reports with Periscope and Civis Political experience and/or organizing experience. Expertise in using data and technology in support of more than one of the following: electoral campaigns, progressive advocacy, digital and online advocacy, distributed campaigning, movement building, and grassroots mobilization. Customer service, client account management, or support experience.

Salary and Benefits:

This is a union position. Salary will be determined according to a salary scale which takes into account years’ experience, location, job category, and other factors, but is expected to be $70,000-$80,000 and category 2. The Collective Bargaining Agreement is available here.
