Job Title: Accountant

Reports To: Director of Finance & Accounting

Status: Exempt

Location: Mableton Business Center

Salary: $50-$55K

JOB SUMMARY

Performs a variety of routine and some non-routine accounting functions in accordance with standard procedures in one or more of the following areas: general accounting, payroll, or related financial area. Assists the Director of Finance & Accounting in executing the day-to-day accounting functions associated with the finance and accounting department. Compiles and analyses accounting data for the Council. Reconciles bank accounts and other balance sheet accounts to subsidiary ledgers. Contacts other departments and/or outside agencies to resolve problems.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Prepare journal entries to recognize revenue, accrue expenses, record payroll, and others as needed
  • Process payroll on rotating basis with Senior Accountant
  • Perform account analysis and reconciliation of cash accounts, deferred revenue, and other assigned accounts to source documents and/or subsidiary ledgers
  • Compile information and assist with year-end audit
  • Prepares reports for the CFO, Finance Committee, and/or Board of Directors
  • Serves as back up for other accountants
  • Adheres to GSGATL Finance Policies and provides guidance to other departments about the policies
  • Other duties as assigned

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Strong knowledge of accounting rules, financial statements, and debits and credits
  • Good verbal and written communication skills
  • Professionalism
  • Problem solving abilities
  • Microsoft Office proficiencies (including Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
  • Good interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work well with all levels of internal management and staff, as well as volunteers
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions

  • Demonstrated ability to handle multiple tasks and prioritize each
  • Ability to meet designated deadlines
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality

PREFERRED SKILLS

  • Not-for-profit fund accounting knowledge and experience
  • Knowledge of Girl Scout organization

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
  • At least 2 years work experience performing similar accounting, research, and reconciliation duties
  • Extensive knowledge of Excel and other Microsoft Office software as well as computerized accounting systems
