Row New York is a unique sports-based non-profit organization founded on the premise that the discipline and teamwork that rowing instills, when combined with rigorous academic support, has the power to change lives.  We have two main programs: Our Youth Program serves over 250 middle and high school student-athletes from diverse cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds. It is a high dosage, year-round rowing and academic program  with a goal of ensuring that 100% of our young people graduate high school and matriculate to college or begin an alternative post-secondary plan. In addition, we offer rowing to New Yorkers of all ages who are either people with physical or cognitive disabilities, military veterans, or local community members. Lastly, Row New York offers a fee-for-service rowing program for New York City independent high schools and summer camps. Our programs are offered at two program sites: Upper Manhattan and Flushing Meadows Corona Park, with an additional rowing site in Canarsie, Brooklyn. 





The Individual Engagement Manager is crucial both to the success of Row New York’s current programs and operations, but also to the actualization of our ambitious capital campaign goals to build a community boathouse and expand our reach. This role will manage our individual income stream by working closely with our Executive Director and Vice President of Development and Communications, strategizing targets and building out cultivation plans, as well as identifying, cultivating, and soliciting their own portfolio of 50-100 donors. An ideal candidate is an experienced development professional, is an excellent project manager, has a passion for making an impact and leadership, and thrives in a team-oriented environment.



This position is carried out working both remotely and in-person. Local residency and full vaccination against COVID-19 required. 





Plan and execute Row New York’s annual giving and major gifts programs to meet fundraising goals;


Maintain a portfolio of 50-100 donors and prospects by developing and implementing strategies for establishing and strengthening these relationships;


In collaboration with the Executive Director and Vice President of Development and Communications, create relationship management teams for major donors that leverage key staff, board members and partners;


Solicit and close gifts with a focus on upgrading current mid-level donors who have the capacity to make annual gifts of $5,000+;


Identify new prospects, develop giving profiles and strategies for engagement;


Ensure senior staff are supported in their donor relations work, including providing presentation materials and draft communications, briefings, and assistance with appointment scheduling and call reports;


Help produce cultivation and stewardship events for prospects and donors at the mid- and major levels, including the annual Fall Benefit;


Actively manage existing donor pipelines and moves management processes; 


Ensure all transactions related to annual giving are accurately documented and tracked in Salesforce;


Collaborate on the strategy of grassroots fundraising/direct mail and online solicitation projects as well as other digital marketing efforts;


Support the Executive Director and Vice President of Development and Communications with executing capital campaign strategy;


Supervise the Development Associate, who is responsible for data entry, gift acknowledgement, and revenue collection practices; ensuring accuracy of records, documentation, acknowledgements and reconciliation with the Finance team, timely completion of gift processing, and that donor management and communication best practices are followed organization-wide;


Other responsibilities as assigned. 




Bachelor’s degree required


At least three years of nonprofit fundraising experience, and, ideally, at least two years’ experience working with individual donors


Strong written, verbal and interpersonal skills with exceptional attention to detail;


Seasoned and strategic knowledge of donor/database management; proficiency in Salesforce strongly preferred


Superb time management; ability to handle multiple tasks, adhere to deadlines and work well under pressure, both independently and as part of a team


Creative, resourceful with problem-solving mindset


Passion for Row New York’s mission and a desire to contribute to an organization that provides opportunities


Understanding of the role racial inequity, power and privilege play in society and applies this understanding to the workplace, projects and interactions


Experience running fundraising and cultivation events for donors and prospects


Has grace, professionalism, excellent judgment, discretion, and a sense of humor and is comfortable working with senior leaders, community, and business leaders


Ability to understand the motivations of others, inspire and compel others to action, and quickly build authentic and deep relationships.


Local residency upon hire and full vaccination against COVID-19 required.
