Serving nearly 55,000 individuals each year, the LAA offers Atlanta area Latinos an extensive range of evidence-based services, programs and supports to help them fully and successfully integrate into the community.  Our focus areas & programs include Family Well Being; Economic Empowerment; Immigration Legal Services; Youth Education and Advocacy.    

Goal: The goal to foster Hispanics/Latinx families’ stabilization & well-being.  

Position Purpose:  The Receptionist will work as a team member of the LAA Gwinnett Outreach Center, to assist FSWB case managers and office manager with daily job duties & goals.  

The Family Well Being Department is the social services component of Latin American Association. The LAA works closely with families in crisis seeking services such as rent/mortgage/utility assistance, food, benefit enrollment (SNAP/Medicaid) and referrals to other partners/organizations. The receptionist will help/assist FSWB Case managers with the intake process of clients, complete applications for services, provide information about LAA Programs, provide excellent customer service and collaborate with the team in coordinating & promoting of outreach events.  

Our case managers follow up with clients for at least 90 days to provide assistance enrolling in the SNAP (food stamps) program, Medicaid, and other social assistance programs. This department also aims to connect clients with other LAA services as well as additional community resources. The receptionist position will help to inform clients of these processes and procedures as the employee in this position will be the first point of contact for most of our clients. This position will also assist the office manager with office operation tasks, and also in communicating with vendors, partners, and organizations who are interest in collaborating with LAA Gwinnett, and assist in administrative duties as requested. A position with this department presents an opportunity to gain a full understanding of the needs affecting metro-Atlanta’s Latino population. 

Outcomes of the Receptionist Position: 

  1. Gain exposure and experience in the field of social work and social services.  
  2. Develop a working knowledge of federal aid programs, such as SNAP, TANF and SCHIP, and Financial Assistance programs & how these programs apply to the Latino demographic.   
  3. Gain skills related to the Spanish language and exposure to a bicultural/bilingual learning experience in the field of social and community services. 
  4. Develop a positive attitude, cultural diversity skills, social intervention skills, and a strong desire to help the community. 
  5. Serve as an integral part of community events and outreach activities.  
  6. Learn how to relate effectively with people of diverse cultural and economic backgrounds. 

Receptionist duties/responsibilities: 

  1. Provide clients with a brief orientations about the Family Stabilization & Well Being Department, (by phone and/or in person), 
  2. Assist staff with intake, assess client’s needs, and connect them with internal LAA programs and services or community resources.  
  3. Provided orientation to clients about documentation needed to apply for public benefits assistance, Financial Assistance and other services as needed. 
  4. Support and complete pre-screening forms for the homeless prevention program.  
  5. Complete client’s feedback surveys to clients served.  
  6. Assist with follow up calls to assess client’s stabilization and additional resources needed.  
  7. Promote the LAA events and programs including Immigration, Youth Education, Economic Empowerment and Family Stabilization and Well Being program.  
  8. Provide excellent customer services to all clients by phone & in person.  
  9. Greet clients/open the door for clients who walk into the office. 
  10. Schedule in person appointments when needed or requested by clients. 
  11. Take messages for case managers & office manager.  
  12. Maintain the reception space organized & with the most up dated information/brochures/flyers on all the boards & shelves.  
  13. Assist with Administrative work as requested by case managers or office manager when needed. 

Skills needed

  • Excellent written, oral presentation and interpersonal skills

  • Excellent Customer Services skills  
  • Dedicated and enthusiastic  
  • Knowledge on technology – Microsoft word, teams, WhatsApp, Zoom, Google Voice, Google Docs etc. Qualifications 
  • High School Diploma/GED 
  • Fluency in both English and Spanish REQUIRED 
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to details 
  • Ability to work with people of diverse backgrounds 
  • High level of proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and Power Point  

Hours/Salary: 

  • Part time (24 HOURS)  
  • In Person (This is not a remote job) 
  • $10.00 per hour  
  • 3 days per week / 8 hours each day or 4 days per week/6 hours per day 
  • Contract Job: Part time Position (no benefits)
