Job Details
Free Bikes 4 Kidz Atlanta is a non-profit organization whose goal is to collect and refurbish gently used bicycles to give to underserved children who otherwise have no resources to get a bicycle. The Atlanta FB4K team focuses on the underserved areas of metro Atlanta through partnerships with groups such as the United Way and Atlanta Public Schools. Our collection, refurbish and giveaway season runs from late September through early December of each year. Our 2021 goal is to collect and refurbish 1,500 bicycles.
FB4KATL is looking for a Warehouse Manager for the refurbishment season. The Warehouse Manager will be responsible for the day-to-day operations of the facility where the bike storage, refurbishment and giveaway will happen. Most likely, the Warehouse will be located in the MET (680 Murphy Ave SW, Atlanta, GA 30310). The Warehouse Manager will work in conjunction with the Chief Mechanic to ensure that the storage, tracking and refurbishment process runs smoothly.
The duties and responsibilities include (but are not limited to):
- Be available during the shop hours -- Saturdays and Sundays from October to mid-December and some weekday evenings - preferably on site.
- Work with the Board/Executive Team to secure warehouse space.
- Oversee the initial transport and unpacking of FB4K warehouse materials from storage to the facility.
- Setting up the initial shop floor and bike corrals according to FB4K ops plans (Chief Mechanic to provide input as well).
- Counting the bikes by size and at each phase of refurbishment and keeping a running record of the work in process. Will have access to our tracking tool, TRKBL.
- Forecasting volunteer needs for all three work areas (clean, prep and refurbishing).
- Coordinating schedule and volunteer needs with the volunteer coordinator.
- Address facility issues with the facility owners/managers (ie broken door, establishing electricity, running water, etc.
- Ensure all materials are available for cleaning and prepping (shop rags, cleaners, etc) before each shift.
- Work closely with the Chief Mechanic to ensure all the tires, tubes, parts and other consumable materials are available for refurb.
- Work with the site host to make sure all volunteers get the proper training (quick FB4K videos).
- Ensure the warehouse is transformed over from refurb center to the Giveaway Day site.
- Oversee the repacking of FB4K materials, transport to the storage unit and final cleaning of the warehouse space.
Requirements:
- Knowledge of bicycle shop operations or similar bike co-op operations (SOPO, Bearings, etc).
- Excellent communication skills, verbal and written
- Ability to work with other FB4K leaders (chief mechanic, volunteer coordinator, etc.) Demonstrated ability to work with various members of leadership
- Basic budgeting skills
- Excellent organizational skills.
- Patience, empathy & the ability to work with and oversee volunteer staff.
- Microsoft Excel skills or similar BI package for monitoring the flow and forecasting needs.
- Works quickly to address unforeseen issues as they arise (weather, inventory, volunteer staff concerns, facility etc.)
- No felonies or other convictions that would keep the WM from being near children.
Preferred skills:
- Basic carpentry and handyman skills
- Experience with the FB4K refurbishment and/or Giveaway Day
- A knowledge of basic bicycle mechanics and the willingness and ability to teach these skills to our volunteers.
