Position Purpose:

The Community Foundation for Greater Atlanta leads and inspires philanthropy to increase the vitality of our region and well-being of all residents. Reporting to the VP Community Impact, the Scholarships Manager is responsible for overseeing the Foundation scholarship portfolio and related operations, ensuring that the practices, processes and systems are efficient and impactful. A successful candidate will drive effective scholarship operations in the context of scholarships serving as a tool in advancing equity of opportunity and increasing access to post-secondary education in our region.

Essential Functions of the Position:

Overall Scholarship Portfolio Strategy and Operations: 

  • Engage in strategic planning and implementation of the Foundation scholarship programs as a portfolio to achieve strategic plan goals and drive continuous improvement
  • Build and maintain standard scholarship “packages” for use in scholarship “sales” with potential donors
  • Partner with Philanthropy in scoping new scholarship program deals, and onboarding of new scholarship programs including strategy, purpose, design, build and launch to integrate into broader scholarship portfolio
  • Develop and oversee scholarship portfolio performance indicators and dashboard, reporting and analysis
  • Manage scholarship budgets and workplans including monitoring, evaluation and continuous improvement of the programs, processes and systems within the scholarship portfolio
  • Conduct scholarship portfolio analysis to identify areas of improvement and / or additional services to increase scholar retention and post-secondary persistence
  • Serve as subject matter expert on local, state and national scholarship regulations, compliance requirements and best practices and apply to Foundation scholarship programs and policies
  • Collaborate with the Philanthropy team to build and maintain relationships with scholarship partnerships and key donors in support of scholarship portfolio strategy and operations

Foundation Scholarship Portfolio Management and Execution

  • Supervise direct reports and seasonal contractors in performing scholarship operations including recruiting, hiring, orienting, coaching and providing on-going feedback; performance planning, evaluation and professional development
  • Serve as Scholarship expert. Maintain deep knowledge of scholarship regulations and fund goals, eligibility, selection process, and award criteria
  • Serve as a creative member of the Foundation’s overall team. This includes supporting and contributing to foundation-wide efforts, identifying and resolving key strategic issues; expense monitoring; assisting with board and staff education and board committee work, as appropriate; improving management systems and workflow; and maintaining performance standards.
  • Oversee end to end processing of individual Foundation scholarship programs as part of a cohesive scholarship portfolio:
  • Effectively and efficiently execute Achieve Atlanta scholarship operations, including:
  • Planning, organizing resources, overseeing execution of each review and payment cycle, process and system improvements
  • Serving as Achieve Atlanta relationship manager and point of escalation, including supporting Scholarships Assistant and Scholarships Associate for questions and issue resolution

Communications

  • Drive outreach strategy and work with Marketing and Communications and other partners to reach target student audiences for available scholarships
  • Establish and maintain positive relationships with Finance and external university partners effective check processing and payment resolution
  • Provide leadership, clear and effective communication, and high quality customer service to scholarship partners, donors, scholarship review teams and committees and Foundation employees around scholarships
  • Establish and maintain positive relationships with Financial Aid Offices at relevant colleges and universities
  • Other duties as assigned

Key accountabilities of the position (including but not limited to):

  • Partner with Grants Management to measure and evaluate Community Impact results in the context of strategic plan goals
  • Partner with Philanthropy to attract and properly scope new scholarship programs to support strategic plan goals
  • Partner with Foundation and Achieve Atlanta teams in overseeing portals/databases, identifying improvement needs and partnering with IT and external vendors to design, build and implement improvements to reporting, processing, etc.

QUALIFICATIONS

Experience & Skills:

6-10 years professional experience related to the duties and responsibilities outlined in this profile; preferred experience in community-based and/or nonprofit organizations. Among other assets of interest, the Community Foundation will be attracted to leaders who embody the following:

  • Strategic mindset coupled with experience in scholarship and program development / management with a proven track record of implementation success
  • Strong strategic, creative and critical thinking skills using a diverse set of approaches and sources of data for insights
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills
  • Proven ability to lead and influence others in a constructive and inclusive manner and to build and sustain collaborative relationships
  • Flexible, resourceful, creative self-starter able to prioritize and manage multiple tasks and competing priorities, and to use data in decision-making processes
  • Experience working with a variety of community, public and private sector partners and stakeholders, including individual, corporate and foundation donors
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite including Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint and Word.  Experience in use of CRM and / or philanthropy records systems, e.g., Salesforce, FIMS and other Blackbaud philanthropy products preferred
  • Ability to work with and demonstrate sensitivity and confidentiality to educational needs of students

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times
