JOB DESCRIPTION 

The Lucile Packard Foundation for Children's Health seeks an experienced strategy and operations professional to join our dynamic team of dedicated individuals with a shared commitment to helping kids and families live healthier lives. Our 90-member staff directs all fundraising for Lucile Packard Children's Hospital Stanford and for the maternal and child health programs at Stanford University School of Medicine. The Foundation's five-year fundraising average totals $165 million a year.

The Director of Gift Strategy and Operations will bring a holistic approach to fundraising programs and their impact to conversations with our partners and faculty at Stanford and Lucile Packard Children's Hospital. Using this lens, the Director will work with these partners to:

  • Identify and develop fundraising opportunities with an eye toward impact, long-term growth, and sustainability, and identify synergies between opportunities to maximize operational effectiveness
  • Translate opportunities into fundraising plans
  • Project manage fundraising plans from inception to implementation, pulling together appropriate groups of partners from the Hospital, School of Medicine, and Foundation to ensure smooth execution
  • Analyze, interpret, and apply policies and procedures related to fund management and administration to ensure funds are administered appropriately
  • Provide updates and analyses of donor-funded accounts
  • Provide ongoing support including monitoring progress, addressing challenges and evaluating successes and assisting with strategic efforts
  • Continuously build knowledge and refine fundraising programs

The Director of Gift Strategy and Operations is a new position reporting to the Associate Vice President of Strategy and Institutional Relationships.

A successful Director will be adept at building relationships and communicating effectively with a diverse group of partners, creating structure around gray areas, translating big ideas into tactical plans, and tracking details through to resolution.

Due to Covid-19, employees of LPFCH are working remotely through February of 2022 (subject to extension as circumstances warrant). Once the office reopens, there will be some flexibility to work remotely.

 

GENERAL POSITION DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The Director will provide support to all of the Foundation's fundraising field teams. The majority of partnership will be with Principal Gifts, Major Gifts, Campaigns, with some support to Gift Planning, Children's Fund, Corporation and Foundations.

 

Development and Planning of Gift Opportunities

  • Support business planning and vetting of the largest gift opportunities.
  • Source and help develop specific gift opportunities at all levels for all teams across the Foundation.
  • Point person to work with LPCH service line leads for the Centers of Emphasis program development asks, receiving requests and vetting opportunities.
  • Resource for field officers as they work with donors to provide information on how to direct gifts to proper funds to ensure that donor support can most easily be utilized.
  • Responsible for helping gift officers as they vet proposals and donors through the Gift Acceptance Process.

Gift Implementation

  • Once a major or principal gift is finalized, coordinate internal communication and implementation plan to key stakeholders at Stanford and LPCH.
  • Collaborate with Stanford and LPCH to source information needed for reporting and stewardship requirements related to donor gifts.
  • Support accountability plans for gifts at risk.

Internal Operations

  • Lead internal annual budget preparation
  • Support implementation of lease and space planning
  • Help track the 5-year growth plan beyond the Foundation's current engagement.

Good of the Whole

  • As requested, attend and support executive leadership team on special projects

EDUCATION, SKILLS, EXPERIENCE AND JOB-RELATED REQUIREMENTS

Education and experience candidates must possess:

 

  • Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education, training, and work experience suitable for the position.
  • 7-10 years of experience in fundraising preferred, with a focus on development operations
  • Familiarity with principal and major gifts preferred
  • Experience translating strategy into project and operational plans
  • Success in building relationships with stakeholders across functions and managing up and laterally to meet deadlines and deliverables
  • Experience developing a budget and tracking spending
  • Experience using data to drive strategic decision-making
