Staff Attorney- Farmworkers Rights Division

The Farmworker Rights Division of Georgia Legal Services Program (FRD-GLSP) is hiring a full-time, remote, and bilingual (Spanish/English) Staff Attorney.

About the Farmworker Rights Division

The FRD provides free legal representation to eligible farmworkers with employment-related matters in Georgia. Typical cases involve employers failing to pay workers’ wages; discriminating on the basis of sex, citizenship or national origin; subjecting workers to human trafficking conditions; and breaking recruitment promises. Clients include guest workers from Latin America, in addition to local and migrant U.S. farmworkers. Currently, the FRD consists of one Senior Staff Attorney, one Staff Attorney, one Regional Operations Manager, and two paralegals.

This staff attorney position, and one paralegal, will be funded through a grant administered by the Georgia Criminal Justice Coordinating Council, as part of the newly created Agricultural Labor Trafficking Task Force. The staff hired under the subgrant will collaborate with this multi-agency coalition, working together to fight against agricultural labor trafficking in rural Georgia and to provide comprehensive services to the survivors. This is a 3-year grant.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

· Coordinate community education about agricultural labor trafficking and the services we provide to survivors. This includes migrant camp outreach, partnerships with local agencies/organizations serving low income and immigrant communities, and social media campaigns.

· Provide direct legal services, focusing on T-Visa applications for victims of human trafficking, derivative T-Visa applications for eligible family members, and other legal representation directly related to the victim’s T-Visa, such as law enforcement reporting, waivers of inadmissibility, and requests for reconsideration/appeals to USCIS. Co-counsel with lead counsel from the FRD in civil litigation on behalf of survivors of labor trafficking, in Federal District Court.

· Actively participate in the Agricultural Labor Trafficking Task Force, hosted by the Georgia Criminal Justice Coordinating Council. Coordinate with Task Force partners to offer comprehensive services to our clients. Serve as GLSP’s representative in this task force.

Requirements

· Juris Doctorate Degree and licensed to practice law in Georgia, or eligible for admission without examination.

· Demonstrated commitment to social, economic, and racial justice, especially in the areas of worker and/or immigrant rights. 

· Strong language skills (oral and written) in Spanish, including good oral presentation skills. Candidates selected for an interview should expect a portion of the interview to be conducted in Spanish. 

· Previous experience and/or coursework in immigration law preferred.

· This position requires meeting and interviewing clients outside of normal business hours and will require travel to rural Georgia.

· Possess and maintain a valid driver’s license during employment. 

· Must maintain reliable high-speed internet for home office (remote work).

SALARY AND BENEFITS

The starting salary range for this position is between $50,750 and $57,350, depending on experience. In addition, GLSP offers excellent fringe benefits including health insurance, retirement benefits, an employer-financed partial student loan repayment program, annual salary increases, generous paid leave benefits, etc.

This is a remote position, with home office location anywhere within 200 miles of Tifton, Georgia (only within the state of Georgia).
