HR Generalist (Part-time)

Purpose of the job

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced HR Generalist to join the Center for Puppetry Arts in a part-time role in Atlanta. You will play a pivotal role in supporting the overall HR strategy by providing human resource support to our leadership team and employees while ensuring company processes are fit for purpose and are applied consistently and fairly.

As well as providing general HR advice and guidance, you will also play a key role in high volume recruitment, helping us bring in great new talent to support our growth. Working alongside our Department Directors, this will include; sourcing suitable candidates, interviewing and onboarding our new employees.

There will also be some exciting opportunities to review and explore our employee offering including reviewing benefit and payroll providers, establishing performance management/coaching process, and continuing to define and improve all HR policies and procedures.

Please note, there is some flexibility, however, we would ideally need you to be in our office at least one full day per week.

The Opportunity:

  • First point of contact for any local HR related questions and issues, providing expert advice and keeping employment law knowledge current
  • Support recruitment process, onboarding and sign off of probationary periods, when relevant, for all new starters, providing administrative support where necessary
  • Complete payroll process in conjunction with third-party payroll provider, PayCom
  • Support the management of benefit plans, including open enrollment and registering of new employees
  • Note taking at various HR meetings, such as disciplinaries and absence management meetings
  • Respond to unemployment claims
  • Work effectively with others to increase employee engagement levels, ensuring the Center is a ‘great place to work’
  • Evaluate competencies and training needs for all employees. Deliver HR training to managers, as needed.
  • Seek to continuously improve ways of working
  • Prepare HR reports and metrics when requested

Qualifications

  • 5+ years HR generalist experience including; handling and resolving a wide range of employee relations issues and strong knowledge and application of HR practices and Federal and State employment law, benefits and compensation
  • Previous experience and knowledge of payroll procedures and processing
  • Strong knowledge of Benefits Administration
  • Experienced in recruitment and ensuring best practice
  • PHR or SHRM certification a plus
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, the ability to build relationships at all levels
  • Be highly organized and able to prioritize competing demands with a practical ‘can do’ attitude
  • Have an ability to deal with sensitive information with empathy and the utmost confidentiality
  • Ideally familiar with unique needs of contract labor, exempt and non-exempt seasonal employees

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Conducts meetings with employees and the leadership team
  • Consults with employees providing HR guidance when appropriate
  • Analyzes trends and metrics in partnership with the leadership to develop solutions, programs and policies
  • Manages and resolves complex employee relations issues. Conducts effective, thorough and objective investigations
  • Maintains in-depth knowledge of legal requirements related to day-to-day management of employees, reducing legal risks and ensuring regulatory compliance. Partners with outside counsel as needed/required
  • Provides day-to-day performance management guidance to leadership team (e.g., coaching, counseling, career development, disciplinary actions)
  • Works closely with management and employees to improve work relationships, build morale, and increase productivity and retention
  • Provides HR policy guidance and interpretation
  • Participates in the recruitment, onboarding and offboarding of employees utilizing the input on departmental workforce planning and succession planning
  • Identifies training needs and individual coaching needs with input from senior leadership.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university OR 8 years of human resource experience.

Key Skills & Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Public Administration, or related field AND five (5) years of related experience
  • Experience with PayCom a plus
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams and multi-disciplinary projects
  • Excellent Planning and Organization Skills
  • Exceptional Interpersonal Communication skills
  • Advanced Experience using MS Word, Excel and Outlook
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and empathy
