Make the Road Nevada (MRNV), a 501(c)(3) organization holds a vision for Nevada that begins with building a strong grassroots foundation in Las Vegas and it ends with elevating the power of working-class immigrant communities in every community around the state. We do this by informing, empowering, and mobilizing our community to take action on important issues that directly affect their families and loved ones.

Make the Road Action (MRA), a 501(c)(4) organization is committed to building power for justice in immigrant and low-income working-class communities of color. MRA operates in five states - New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Nevada, and Pennsylvania. We work to create social change, connect voters to the candidates and issues that are most important to them, and work hands-on in a fast-paced environment to create long-term impact in the communities that need it most. 

Make the Road States (MRstates), a 501(c)(3) organization is the national home for the second-generation Make the Road family of organizations that serves to uplift the voices of working-class, immigrants, women, LGBTQIA people, and people of color.

The Role:

The Communications Associate (CA) will support the Communications Director in actions and campaigns of the organization on digital platforms by developing content and monitoring digital platforms. This will ensure that messaging is consistent and aligns with the MRNV mission. CA will establish brand identity across all social media channels while developing content for online engagement and brand awareness. 

Key Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

Campaign Development and implementation:

  • Assists team in producing messaging for print and digital campaigns, including but not limited to media kits, event flyers, website, and social media assets, event programs, e-newsletter, and other projects as assigned by Communications director
  • Develop communications messaging for the organization
  • Write copy for emails, landing pages, social media, and related collateral as needed.
  • Maintain and grow MRNV/MRA Facebook page and other digital platforms 
  • Regularly schedule and maintain all social accounts with new and existing graphics through social media manager (Hootsuite or buffer)
  • Assists the team in preparation for new ideas and fresh designs as assigned for print and web deliverables, servicing a variety of internal MRNV projects
  • Resizes & rebrand existing artwork as assigned for web using Canva and other platforms            
  • Assists with preparation for actions/press events as directed
  • Helps to ensure consistency and continuity with brand identity in all assets
  • Perform social media monitoring and rapid response using a variety of tools and online resources to track daily relevant trends of relevant local issues as well as the national media landscape

Member Organizing and Leadership Development 

  • Engage and organize our communities through digital tools
  • Be proactive on how we can grow the participation of our membership online 
  • Recruit and manage digital volunteers, as needed, create and maintain community spaces for highly-engaged members, such as Facebook and/or slack groups.

Qualifications: 

  • Eligible to work in the US
  • 1-2 years in journalism or communications or related fields 
  • 1-2 years of experience in general Photography/videography skills.
  • Bilingual Spanish/English 
  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment where tasks may shift quickly 
  • Must be able to effectively communicate their project ideas both verbally and in writing
  • Must have access to the internet and a reasonable understanding of the functions of social media and its trends
  • Demonstrate interest in social justice, and community organizing

Job competencies:

  • Proven ability to manage complex relationships and build consensus among diverse interests.
  • Effective verbal and listening communication skills 
  • Attention to detail 
  • Understanding of Gsuites 
  • Good communication, organizational skills. 
  • Able to meet deadlines with simultaneous projects
  • Must be open to learning new systems and learning new ways of communicating both digitally and in person.

We have a robust legal program that offers direct representation across a spectrum of practice areas, including employment law, immigration law, housing and benefits, and TGNCIQ civil rights; we also take on impact litigation as a strategy for achieving broad change. Our health program offers facilitated enrollment into health insurance programs and SNAP benefits, a community health worker home visit program, nutrition education and emergency food pantries, health care navigation, and more.
