JOB SUMMARY

You will lead the development and execution of YLabs’ marketing and communication strategy organization-wide. This will include but is not limited to public relations, website and social media, brand expression, and partner communications. You may also provide editorial support to elevate our external communications, including pitch decks, reports, and conference presentations. This position reports directly to the CEO, as part of the Growth and Partnerships team at YLabs. It is supported by additional communications staff and social media coordinators. This is a full-time position which requires the ability to legally work in the United States. While a majority of our US staff live and work remotely in California, there is no requirement for this role to be based out of California. If you choose to work remotely, it will be necessary to travel to the Berkeley office at times for in-person meetings, dependent on current COVID-19 restrictions. 

ABOUT YLABS’ COMPENSATION

YLabs adheres to Project Fair’s principles and standards to establish equity in pay with the overriding principle of “equal pay for work of equal value” outlined in the Sustainable Development Goals. All salary ranges are based on level within the organization and are competitive to regional and national salary benchmarks, based on the respective office location.

PAY RATE

The pay range for this position is $80,000 - $87,500 USD per year, commensurate with experience.

YOU WILL:

Marketing and Communications

  • With support and direction of the CEO and Managing Director, develop and implement YLabs’ communications strategy and workplan
  • Lead the curation, production, and dissemination of internal and external content via web, social media, and email marketing channels
  • Work with project teams to draft and edit compelling stories on our project work for our blog and external publications
  • Develop and grow YLabs media relations capacity, building media relationships/ media database and securing media coverage to amplify YLabs’ work and impact
  • Lead YLabs’ social media campaigns for key days, topic themes, and to disseminate stories of our work and impact
  • Manage the social media editorial calendar, creating and curating posts and work with our design team on supporting digital design assets
  • Support the CEO with the drafting and development of key communications, including newsletters, donor communications, and media inquiries
  • Coordinate design and production of all materials to support development efforts such as annual impact report, fundraising decks, and direct mail materials
  • Manage the updates of content on the YLabs website, working with our in-house design team and overseeing external hosting accounts
  • Manage our database of partners and friends of YLabs
  • Train and support YLabs’ staff to be effective, consistent, and impactful in their external communications about our work Impact
  • Work with the Impact Working Group to conceptualize creative impact reporting techniques that utilizes both quantitative data and qualitative storytelling
  • Work with individual project teams to identify and craft promising impact stories for further development
  • Lead composition and dissemination of impact stories for annual report, donor materials, and sharebacks with the communities with whom we partner
  • Events
    • Work with the CEO and Growth team to conceptualize, plan and execute events with support of key operations staff
    • Provide communications support for project teams leading events or joining key convening e.g. international conference presentations

YOU HAVE:

  • Minimum of 5-8 years’ experience in a communications role
  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Strong commitment to YLabs’ mission, vision, and values
  • Exceptional writing and editorial skills with high attention to detail; the ability to effectively tailor the style and voice to the intended audience
  • Previous experience drafting press releases, corporate statements, executive communications, and internal communications
  • Experience in media relations and building an organization’s media profile
  • Exemplary project management skills with the ability to oversee multiple projects in a fast-paced environment
  • Experience with vendor and consultant management, especially in working with designers
  • Strong experience with email marketing software/platforms (preferably Mail Chimp)
  • Proficiency in website management, ideally Squarespace or similar
  • Expertise and interest in managing different social media and networking sites such as Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn, Vimeo, and YouTube

DESIRABLE:

  • Experience in Adobe Creative Cloud (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, etc.)
  • Additional language skills
  • PR agency experience
