Job Details

NCYL’s Youth Justice Initiative seeks to transform Colorado’s juvenile justice system into a national model in which all children and youth in the justice system receive effective developmental and rehabilitative supports that improve life outcomes, community health, and public safety.

Position

The Campaign Coordinator will lead a collective impact effort to reduce youth incarceration and system involvement, promote effective local treatment options, improve interagency collaboration, and work to ensure Black, Brown, and Native youth are not overrepresented in the juvenile justice system. The Campaign Coordinator will work with system and community leaders to develop and guide ongoing efforts to reduce the harm of system involvement to youth in conflict with the law. This is a great opportunity for someone who is passionate about advocating for reforms and serving youth in their communities consistent with principles of positive youth development.

Essential Functions

·       Research, develop and implement a policy agenda.

·       Conduct local stakeholder interviews, landscape analyses, and resource mapping.

·       Analyze, interpret, and present data from multiple systems.

·       Plan and execute legislative briefings, lobby days and team retreats.

·       Develop and facilitate law and policy presentations and training to system-involved youth, and impacted families and community members.

·       Attend and represent communities’ interests in the systems stakeholder meetings towards promoting reforms.

·       Create material for and maintain social media accounts.

·       Track implementation progress and deliverables across the state.

·       Elevate impacted youths and communities’ experiences and voice.

Company

About Us

The National Center for Youth Law believes in the incredible power, agency, and wisdom of youth.

For more than 50 years, we have worked to center the voices and experiences of youth blocked from educational, health, and social well-being opportunities, particularly Black youth and youth of color, LGBTQ youth, disabled youth, immigrant youth, and youth in child welfare and juvenile justice systems.

We are transforming systems – classrooms, courts, the justice system, and health care spaces – to extend equity, dignity and care for children and youth.

Our Vision and Mission

Our vision is a world in which every child thrives and has a full and fair opportunity to achieve the future they envision for themselves.

Our purpose is to amplify youth power, dismantle racism and other structural inequities, and build just policies, practices, and culture that center youth.

Our mission is to center youth voices and experiences through impact litigation, policy advocacy, collaboration and research that fundamentally transforms our nation's approach to education, health, immigration, foster care, and youth justice.
