Job Details
We are seeking a visionary development professional to lead Savanna Institute’s Development strategy as the organization enters a phase of rapid expansion of its mission to scale up agroforestry in the midwest. Savanna Institute is looking for someone who can build upon our strong record for raising and managing resources to make an impact. We have developed several agroforestry demonstration farms throughout the midwest, founded a robust farmer education and apprenticeship program that trains more than twenty new farmers per year, and purchased two farms in Spring Green, WI.
The Director of Development will be responsible for leading several key areas:
- $12.5 million capital campaign to develop our home farms into an innovation center for research, training, and commercialization in agroforestry
- Savanna Institute’s fundraising strategy for scaling up agroforestry in the midwest\
- Long-term strategy for building fundraising capacity.
We seek applicants who share our passion for ecological and equitable agriculture as a nature-based climate solution and who are motivated to widen the circle of who has the opportunity to inform, support, and benefit from its development. To that end, we are seeking a diversity of voices at the table and strongly encourage women, people of color, LGBT individuals, people with disabilities, members of ethnic minorities, foreign-born residents, and veterans to apply.
Company
The Savanna Institute is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization based in Madison, WI and Urbana, IL. Established in 2013, we work in collaboration with farmers, businesses, and scientists to lay the groundwork for widespread agroforestry in the Midwest US. Inspired by the native savanna ecosystems that once covered much of this region, we envision a transformed agricultural system, centered on trees and other perennial crops, that fosters ecological resilience, climate stability, economic prosperity, and vibrant, equitable communities.
