United States of Care is seeking a Senior Advisor to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) to join its growing team. The mission of United States of Care is to ensure that everyone has access to quality, affordable health care regardless of health status, social need, or income. United States of Care is a non-partisan non-profit that is building and mobilizing a movement to achieve long-lasting solutions that make health care better for everyone. United States of Care will help make it happen by working with people from across the country: patients and caregivers, advocates, physicians and other clinicians, policymakers, and business, civic, and religious leaders.

Position Overview

A full time position, the Senior Advisor reports to and supports the CEO. The Senior Advisor is a mission driven, motivated, entrepreneurial, and enthusiastic professional with extraordinary communication and administrative skills and strategic thinking ability. The Senior Advisor has a strong executive assistant background and will support the CEO internally, as well as strategic project management experience to support organization-wide goals, strategic initiatives, and campaigns to drive our mission. The ideal candidate will have a professional record that demonstrates their ability to deftly balance internal and external priorities. This key role is a central hub of information and communication across the organization.

Responsibilities and Duties

Administrative Duties and Hands-On Support

  • Maximize the CEO’s effectiveness by leveraging their time in a way that ensures focus on highest priority issues and initiatives. Streamline and manage the CEO’s workflow by coordinating all scheduling and maintenance of calendar; prioritizing appointments and meetings; responding to incoming requests and inquiries; and managing timekeeping; Prepare CEO for daily meetings and events, including gathering content and research that has been prepared by relevant teams, and as needed preparing new materials, briefings, talking points, speech drafts, and presentations;  Travel with the CEO as needed. Coordinate all travel arrangements, expenses and receipts, meeting logistics, preparation of agendas, materials, and briefings, and tracking and assisting with necessary follow ups; Work with the CEO on Board meeting preparation, distribution of materials, meeting management, and regular Board outreach and communication;  Draft correspondence and manage draft revisions; Serve as a liaison between CEO and external stakeholders, as appropriate; Assist CEO in managing funder relationships and communication, working with Development department;  Other related duties as assigned.

Strategic Partnership 

  • Act as confidant and thought-partner for the CEO, including on confidential topics;  Represent CEO’s point of view and priorities in meetings and in product design, including providing CEO voice and style, as needed; Convert brainstorming and strategic planning sessions into draft products, proposals, agendas, and plans; Work with the CEO to determine key metrics of success. Participate in the design and monitoring of assessment tools and outcomes measurements to ensure all efforts support the organization-wide goals; Commitment to prioritizing diversity, equity, and inclusion principles, including utilizing organization’s equity lens to inform all work;

Project Management and Internal Communication

  • Prioritize and manage multiple strategic initiatives simultaneously on behalf of the CEO, must have the ability to see the big picture as well as manage to the details; Provide support to the CEO’s initiatives, ensuring a successful launch for new initiatives and to drive results and key outcomes; Working across teams, serve as the primary project manager and lead for key strategic projects that tie across different teams and departments, communicate and work with department leads to establish actionable goals to support organization-wide goals;  Work with the CEO to ensure the USofCare Board and Leadership Councils are informed, prepared, and positioned to serve their functions; 


  • 7-10 years professional experience, including time as a project manager, Chief of Staff, or Senior Advisor role; A strong commitment to ensuring everyone has access to quality, affordable health care and dedication to operating in a diverse, bipartisan, learning atmosphere exploring multiple policy solutions to achieve that mission; Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion principles in your work;  Previous experience in nonprofit fundraising, development, and the health care industry preferred;  Prior experience in calendar management for a senior executive is essential, must be able to balance and prioritize competing demands for CEO’s time; Ability to quickly learn and adapt to CEO’s voice, style, perspective, and priorities to be able to represent in meetings, content, and communications;  Must be able to travel with CEO as needed and commute to the Washington, DC metro area regularly;  Proficient knowledge of GSuite applications and Microsoft Office products including PowerPoint and Excel; Experience with databases, specifically Raiser’s Edge, preferred; Ability to respect and handle sensitive and confidential information with high ethical standards; Demonstrated high attention to detail, ability to handle and manage multiple projects and deadlines at once and deal with competing priorities;  Strong written and verbal communication skills; Very strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build relationships with multiple internal and external stakeholders – is thoughtful, curious, and personable; Demonstrated project management skills; Demonstrated strategic and critical thinking skills; Ability to take informed risks, step out of your comfort zone and embrace ambiguity; use organization’s collective intelligence to solve problems, weigh outcomes, and take calculated risks; Flexibility, enthusiasm, and an ability to handle whatever is thrown at you with confidence and a positive attitude.

Compensation and Location 

The salary for this position is $80,000 – $100,000 depending on experience. 

This position is full-time and United States of Care offers a very generous benefits package including medical, dental, and vision insurance, 403b with match, and paid time off. While this position is currently remote, candidates must be located in and able to commute within the Washington, DC metro area.
