The Salvation Army, an internationally recognized non-profit, faith-based organization, has a job opening for a Service Center Director for the Service Center in St. Marys, GA.

Job Summary

Plans, directs, and participates in the day-to-day operation, management, and maintenance of a Salvation Army Service Center including a Family Store. Recruits and manages a team of staff and volunteers. Prepares bookkeeping, sales, statistics, and payroll records. Participates in screening and providing services to clients. Represents The Salvation Army in the community. Monitors the receipt and processing of Family Store donations; ensures merchandise is properly priced and rotated in order to maximize store sales. Responsible for Christmas programs and other seasonal programs. Assist with Disaster Services as needed.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of the principles and practices of social service administration; Knowledge of the principles and practices of bookkeeping; Knowledge of the principles and practices of marketing and public relations to promote awareness of the Service Center’s services and maximize Family Store sales; Proficiency in Microsoft Office Computer programs, to include but not limited to, Outlook, Excel, Word, Power Point; Knowledge of the principles and practices of personnel supervision; Ability to attract and retain ample supply of staff and volunteers in order to meet the needs of the Center and Store; Ability to prepare accurate and complete bookkeeping, statistical, sales, payroll, and personnel records; Ability to screen social service clients for eligibility to receive social service assistance; Ability to account for all Center funds and to ensure financial assistance disbursement is in compliance with budget and program policies; Ability to build effective working relationships with community agencies in order to make appropriate referrals between agencies; Occasional Travel required for Training and Continuing Education.

Education and Experience

High School Diploma or G.E.D.; Five years’ experience performing progressively responsible social service work with supervisory and bookkeeping responsibilities, any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.

Licenses and Certifications

Valid State Driver’s License (Must meet the guidelines provided by the State of residence and the automobile insurance provider as pertaining to passenger vehicles.)

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

Ability to meet attendance requirements. Ability to read, write, and communicates the English language. Ability to perform mathematical computations. Ability to perform frequent walking and/or standing, kneeling, or squatting relieved by lesser periods of sitting or operating a vehicle.
