Summary of Position: Now more than ever, states have a critical role to play in driving our country forward. The Impact Project (TIP) does this by advancing economic and democracy policies that improve the quality of life for working- and middle-class people. We are 100% focused at the state level and looking for a State Director to join our team in Georgia. The State Director is our savvy strategist and implementer who takes the lead in one of our states. Working with state groups and influential allies on both sides of the aisle, you’ll look for opportunities to make the lives of Georgians better today and in the future, and to make change on economic and democracy issues. As State Director, you identify what policy and influence gaps exist in the state, develop a theory of change about the path forward, and create a mandate for change through investing dollars and expertise in advocacy, organizing, and communications. This position reports to a Deputy Director and is full time and considered exempt for federal overtime purposes.

Our Culture: Our culture is fast-paced and we push for results. We love data, experimentation, and learning from both successes and failures (instead of fearing them). And along the way, we strive to be less Eeyore and more Tigger in our approach. We seek team members who are creative, communicative self-starters who enjoy collaboration.

The core values we live by include: ● Agile – We move quickly and easily. We adapt. ● Bold – We take risks. We are fearless in the face of big challenges. ● Curious – We thirst for data and question assumptions. ● Creative Disruptors – We stretch beyond the norm and innovate. We bring new ideas, new partners, and new strategies. ● Dig Deep – We aren’t looking for surface wins, but fundamental shifts in power.

Who You Are: You know Georgia. You will bring extensive experience on the ground in the state, have experience in issue advocacy and political campaigns, and a willingness to work on both sides of the aisle to achieve wins for the people of Georgia. You have strong relationships with groups who have played in this space and a sophisticated understanding of how to make change in the short and long term. ● Strategic thinker: You have a sophisticated understanding of what is happening in Georgia and are able to guide priorities and quickly assess evolving situations to make the most of the circumstances, thinking with nuance about both the short and long term. You will bring a healthy skepticism to conventional campaign wisdom (“the way it’s always been done”) and question group think. ● Relationship oriented: Your excellent interpersonal skills and natural curiosity about the way things work – or could work – help you build relationships and engage effectively with grantees and stakeholders across the political spectrum. You recognize the importance relationships play in our ability to achieve TIP's goals, and ask the right questions to draw people out and build trust; you communicate clearly and compassionately, listen well, and are self-aware about how your identities may influence how you show up, interact with, and be perceived by others. ● Experienced issue campaigner: You effectively layer advocacy, field, and communications tactics together to maximize impact and are able adeptly shift to seize new opportunities. You take the initiative to develop solutions to seemingly intractable challenges and roadblocks, and suggest new paths forward. ● Strong program manager You stay on top of your priorities, plan ahead, effectively coordinate partners to achieve goals, and clearly communicate. ● Strategist: Exhibit excellent analysis and judgment of the issue environment.

What You’ll Do: Create and drive a plan for year round engagement in Georgia ● Know the landscape and gaps in your state. ● Be pragmatic but bold. ● Work with the TIP policy team and local partners to identify and package policy solutions and oversee legislative campaigns. ● Create the mandate for change through investments in lobbying, communications, grasstops, and grassroots organizing. ● Shape the public narrative about our issues through earned and paid communications. ● Drive civic engagement programs that increase the participation of traditionally underrepresented communities in our democracy. ● Bring new ideas and partners to the table to achieve crafty solutions that help move the ball forward for Georgians in the short and long term. ● Build effective relationships with local partners and vendors across the political spectrum, ensuring consistent updates on their metrics and brokering information across organizations that can increase their impact. ● Deliver high quality and compliant spending proposals. Measure, learn, and channel your inner data geek ● Ensure that thoughtful opinion research is built into the work to center learning the needs and perspectives of Georgians. ● Test your assumptions by building experimentation into projects, working with the Director of Analytics to design and operationalize them. ● Create a culture of learning among your partners in the state, leading by example by sharing results from your own projects or those of your colleagues in other states. ● Drive all projects to utilize best practices and consistent metrics so that we can capture a comprehensive picture of our impact. Actively collaborate with the team ● Participate in regular state team and monthly TIP-wide strategy and organizational calls and virtual meetings. ● Provide weekly written updates and input as requested for donor updates. ● Share breaking news as it happens.
