Analyst, Education Grantmaking

JOB SUMMARY

The Analyst, Education Grantmaking is a member of the Education Portfolio team located in either Schusterman’s San Francisco or Washington DC office. The Education Portfolio team works to ensure Black and Latinx students from low-income backgrounds are able to access a high-quality, culturally relevant K-12 education that empowers them to achieve social and economic liberation. The Analyst, Education Grantmaking will provide on-going, flexible support to team members across all sub-portfolios (Equity by Design, Instructional Materials, Place-Based, Policy and Public Understanding, Professional Learning, Teacher Preparation). This includes assisting Portfolio Managers, Directors and Co-President in grantmaking development and execution, conducting analyses to inform and advance the team's strategies, and supporting other projects and initiatives as they arise.

RESPONSIBILITIES

This position is a key support role on the Education Portfolio team. Job responsibilities will include, but not be limited to:

Project Management and Administration (60%)

Outcome: The Analyst, Education Grantmaking will support Portfolio Managers, Directors and President in executing investment strategies, contributing to effective and efficient grantmaking processes and exceptional support of Portfolio grantees.

• Support grantmaking process and execution (i.e., serve as point for issues related to pipeline grants, general workflow management)  
• Conduct analyses in preparation for development of investment recommendations (e.g., landscape scans, market analyses) and other team-wide projects; assist in other diligence activities, preparation or review as requested  
• Project manage open grants (e.g., scheduling and developing agendas for check-in calls); review, summarize, and analyze grantee reports and other materials (e.g., board materials, bi-annual financial reports); synthesize learnings  
• Provide support for grantee check-ins and related tasks (e.g., notetaking, identifying follow up items)  

Team-wide Learning and Support (25%)

Outcome: The Analyst, Education Grantmaking will provide as-needed team-wide and sub-portfolio specific research and analysis support, contributing to on-going learning, strategy development and refinement.

• Assist with the execution of virtual and in-person convenings (e.g., communities of practice, site visits, cross-funder working groups) including administrative tasks (e.g., scheduling, notetaking, post-convening follow up) and content development  
• Provide support on team-wide or sub-portfolio specific learning agendas (e.g., synthesis of relevant articles, research, and/or books, develop short briefs)  
• Attend relevant external events (e.g., convenings, webinars) and provide takeaways and analyses as relevant to team-wide learning  
• Provide support, as requested, on the development of internal- and external-facing materials (e.g., strategy decks, newsletter)  

Other Duties as Assigned (15%)

Outcome: The Analyst, Education Grantmaking will support Portfolio team members with other projects and initiatives as they arise.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

The following qualifications are representative of the high level of demonstrated skills, maturity, judgment and ability to work with a wide range of constituencies required of Schusterman employees:

• 1+ years of professional experience with familiarity with grants administration/research/analysis a plus
• Passion for improving K-12 education, especially for low-income Black and Latinx students
• Strong attention to detail and focus on quality 
• Comfort with working in an environment that can be ambiguous, requires flexibility and quick turnaround on projects
• Awareness of strengths and opportunities for growth; willingness to communicate around both  
• Clear oral and written communication 
• Prior experience with data and/or financial analysis preferred
• PC skills (with proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint), as well as a thorough knowledge of and comfort with basic web skills
• Comfort with learning new technical systems (e.g., grants management systems)
• Ability to travel, on occasion

COMPENSATION

Competitive salary band of $60,000 - $70,000 based on experience and Schusterman’s commitment to internal equity. A strong benefits package is also included. Schusterman encourages ongoing professional development and supports activities aligned with one’s individual career growth plan. Schusterman does not cover relocation expenses for this position.
