Human Services Manager

The City of San Leandro is seeking a dynamic and experienced individual to serve as the Human Services Manager (payroll title:  Recreation and Human Services Manager). 

This position will continue the development and growth of the human services programs and initiatives by assessing community needs and trends, projecting future demographic changes and resulting needs, and conferring with other departments, public officials, citizens and other community-based organizations to collaboratively address human service issues. 

The ideal candidate will be well-versed in a multitude of human service areas and have experience working programmatically in the areas of mental health, homelessness, and food insecurity. 

The successful candidate will be a solutions-oriented critical thinker who possesses excellent collaboration, organizational, public outreach, and strong analytical and writing abilities. 

Candidates who already have an established network in human services groups and organizations will be able to quickly and adeptly engage both the general community and the underserved populations to address the needs identified in the gap analysis. 

They will be committed to communicating effectively and cultivating successful working relationships with others including members of the public, community organizations, City officials, and staff at all levels.

Minimum requirements for the position include:

• a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in human services, public administration, recreation management or a directly-related field (Master’s degree is highly desired);
• and four years of progressively responsible experience in recreation, leisure services, cultural arts and in assessing and coordinating human services at the school, local, county, state or federal level. 
• One year of supervisory responsibility in related areas is required.
