Job Title: Director of Development, Regional 

Department: Office of Development and Regional Development 

Reports to: Vice President of Development and Regional Director Northeast 

Position Summary 

The Director of Development, Regional, reports to the Regional Director, and the Vice President of Development. 75% of the role will be dedicated to supporting the fundraising objectives set forth by the Office of Development (OoD), and 25% of work time will be spent to support community engagement activities set forth by the Regional Development department. The Director of Development, Regional (“DODR”) serves as a key member of the United Way of Greater Atlanta’s Regional Development and Office of Development departments. Following internal policies and best practices relating to portfolio management and fundraising, the DODR will work collaboratively with the Development Team, and other UWGA staff, to build and manage a fluid portfolio of 100-125 prospects. The DODR has primary responsibility for the identification, qualification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of donor prospects of $25,000.00 and above within a dynamic, fast-paced fundraising environment. The DODR will work collaboratively with the Regional Development Northeast team to enhance United Way’s presence and reputation in the Gwinnett and North Fulton communities, strengthening connection between United Way and local priorities. This duality of development and community engagement encompasses mutually reinforcing duties and responsibilities.


The position will work closely with colleagues across departments, volunteers, boards, community leaders and a variety of others, and must be collaborative, professional, innovative, responsible and more while maintaining a strong work ethic and attention to detail. It is also essential that the DODR be well versed in both the art and science of individual fundraising and have significant experience identifying new high-capacity prospects, closing major gifts, collaborating with others to close gifts, and managing individual portfolios. The DODR will spend approximately 50% of their time each month on personal visits with prospects and will report on at least 7 substantive visits per month. The DODR will spend 25 % of their time each month actively engaged with the Northeast Region staff and in Gwinnett and North Fulton based activities.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The DODR will be responsible for the following goals, duties, and responsibilities.

Development/Fundraising:

  • Secure 112 approved face-to-face visits per year, no fewer than 7 per month.
  • Qualify 22 new portfolio level prospects.
  • Submit a minimum of 8 major gift solicitations per year at a level required by this position.
  • Secure annual dollar goal as set by Development leadership.
  • Make all contacts necessary via phone, email, other, to achieve the above-mentioned results.
  • Document  all data necessary to track said goals through the timely submission of activity within the UWGA CRM, as required by internal policies.
  • Develop, implement, and manage a productive, fluid portfolio of 100-125 prospects through best practices.
  • Meet all yearly revenue and metric-driven goals.
  • Promote collaboration, recognizing our shared goals, and regularly collaborate with colleagues within the Office of Development and other departments as needed.
  • Ensure the proper stewardship of individuals.
  • Increase awareness and knowledge among prospects, donors and other key stakeholders about the Child Well-Being Movement.
  • Develop a solid and detailed working knowledge of United Way’s funding priorities and products.

Community Engagement

  • Participate in Gwinnett and North Fulton Advisory Board Meetings and engage with members to leverage relationships and identify key relationships in each county.
  • Possess a strong understanding of CWB priorities and community needs and help to strengthen and emphasize the impact to secure more investment locally.
  • Maintain an active presence in Gwinnett and North Fulton communities participating in professional, business, and civic organizations and events.
  • Attend chamber of commerce networking events and conferences, local business associations, and leadership groups, serve on local boards or committees, etc. educating the public about UWGA and sharing impact stories about UWGA's investment regionally and locally.
  • Establish and maintain relationships and engage cross-sector community stakeholders.
  • Promote UWGA  events and programs and local partner opportunities that are aligned with UWGA priorities to local stakeholders, including individuals in fundraising portfolio, businesses, nonprofits and faith-based organizations as appropriate.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Vice President of Development and/or the Regional Director

Qualifications & Competencies 

Qualifications

  • Three to Five years fundraising experience to include the demonstrated ability to identify, cultivate and close major gifts.
  • Advanced interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
  • Organization skills for a fast-paced work environment.
  • Microsoft Office knowledge including, Excel, PowerPoint, Word, etc.
  • Experience with CRM/database management.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience implementing and managing capital campaigns.
  • Demonstrated fundraising innovation, especially as it relates to portfolio management.
  • Successful solicitation of $25,000 gifts and above from individuals.

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Dynamic CRM, Raiser’s Edge, or a similar CRM software.
  • Highly attentive to detail and exceptional grammar required.
  • Dedicated to shared and measurable goals and metrics.
