Organization Overview

This past year, we responded to the pandemic by opening a food and diaper pantry and expanding our program to offer 60 days of free emergency childcare. We provide essential safety net services for children ages 0-5 and their families.

Company
OUR MISSION
The Bay Area Crisis Nursery was established to help prevent child abuse and child neglect by providing supportive services to families who are in stress or crisis. Our primary service is providing a warm, loving, homelike environment for children ages birth to five years in our 24-hour residential care facility.
Our services are free, confidential and voluntary.
WHAT IS A CRISIS NURSERY?
The Bay Area Crisis Nursery is a short term residential care facility for young children of families in a time of personal crisis. We service families with parents who care but temporarily can’t cope with overwhelming or stressful life emergencies. Our goal is to bridge the need for emergency childcare while providing a support network of resources and services to ensure both parents and children form a healthy family.
WHO USES OUR SERVICES?
Among the many diverse socio-economic families that seek support from the Bay Area Crisis Nursery, one commonality is the overwhelming desire to find relief from extraordinary and immediate stress. Some are homeless; some have substance abuse problems, some are fleeing domestic violence. Others have a history of mental illness or just a medical emergency. Most of our families reside in the greater East Bay.
WHAT MAKES THE NURSERY UNIQUE?
The Bay Area Crisis Nursery is the only crisis nursery in the San Francisco Bay Area. We are funded by private donations without any government assistance; and our services are provided at no charge to the clients.
To ensure continued success for our families, the Bay Area Crisis Nursery also provides a Respite Care program allowing monthly respite support of the children. This allows our clients the time they need to acquire additional services for continued stress reduction for the family.
