ORGANIZATION OVERVIEW

Ferst Readers is a 501c3 nonprofit organization whose mission is to strengthen communities by providing quality books and literacy resources for children and their families to use at home during the earliest stages of development. Ferst Readers wants every child to have the best start in life - and nothing helps a baby's brain develop more than exposure to rich language and loving interactions. The key is having books in the home and being read to right from birth. Our vision is to create better learners, brighter futures, and stronger communities by giving every child under five access to quality books in their homes. We are currently in eight states and over 100 communities and mailing over 40,000 books and parent newsletters each month.

POSITION OVERVIEW:

The Operations Coordinator provides support for Ferst Readers Director of Accounting and Operations, Development and Communications Manager, and office to ensure that the Ferst Readers program is administered consistent with the organization’s mission, philosophy, objectives, and overall strategic vision. This position supports the organization in accounting, donor data base management, and literacy promotion to ensure program sustainability. The Operations Coordinator reports to the President and Director of Accounting and Operations.

RESPONSIBILTIES:

The Operations Coordinator will have the following primary responsibilities:

1. Operational Management

  • Support organization’s day-to-day programs and initiatives
  • Assists with book order process and help manage inventory
  • Assists the Director of Accounting with daily, monthly, yearly accounting tasks and data entry
  • Assists with book order process
  • Assists with oversight of our student worker program
  • Phone coverage for incoming calls, along with other office staff members

2. Fundraising/Development

  • Supports the Development and Communications Manager with Donor Data Base Entry/maintenance
  • Assists the Development and Communications Manager with Donor acknowledgement correspondence
  • Supports efforts to develop financial resources for Ferst Readers

3. Other tasks as assigned

SKILLS/COMPETENCIES

  • Detail oriented Problem solver Supervisory skills a plus
  • Good written and verbal communication
  • Good organizational skills Nonprofit experience (preferred, but not required)

REQUREMENTS:

Education: Bachelor’s degree preferred

Location: Ferst Readers headquarters office (Madison, GA), this position is a Madison based, in-office position

Experience: QuickBooks, Microsoft Office, and Google products. Network for Good donor database a plus

Physical: Ability to lift boxes up to 20 pounds

Job Type: Full time, salaried (with benefits)

Travel: Less than 10%, valid driver’s license and reliable transportation required
