Director of Communications and Development
Bestwork Industries for the Blind – Cherry Hill, NJ

 

The Opportunity

Bestwork Industries, headquartered in Cherry Hill, NJ near Philadelphia, PA is seeking a Director of Communications and Development to initiate and execute a robust communications and marketing program in alignment with the organization’s mission.  Additionally, this role will also develop an aggressive marketing plan to increase brand awareness, attract talent, grow business and raise funds.  The successful candidate will also develop, implement and supervise fundraising efforts, to include events, direct fundraising campaigns, donor cultivation and grant writing.   The Director of Communications and Development will be a member of the senior leadership team, reporting to the CEO.  This is a new position due to the growth of the organization.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

The Director of Communications and Development

  • Develops and implements a robust marketing and communications program.  Monitors the achievement of goals and objectives.
  • Identify Thought Leadership opportunities to increase brand awareness and heighten visibility/outreach.  Identifies and builds relationships with internal and/or external partners or key stakeholders, such as service groups, community organizations or companies, and other AbilityOne organizations to support programs or projects.
  • Attend conferences, panels, and networking events to build Bestwork’s presence in the region and nationally.  Engage the South Jersey and Philadelphia communities as advocates and supporters.  Educate the public to the effects of unemployment and underemployment for people who are blind.
  • Make professional and informed presentations about Bestwork Industries for the Blind, Inc’s mission, vision and values.
  • Manage all media and social media resources, including the website and newsletter.  Support Human Resources in building brand recognition and the value proposition in being a member of the organization.  Build employee communications program to include Town Halls, Bulletins, Website and Intranet.
  • Develops and implement an advocacy campaign, including inviting key appointed and elected officials to make site visits.
  • Develop plan for identifying and cultivating major gift donors.  Build a donor and endowment base.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Marketing, Business or other related field.
  • Minimum 10 years’ professional experience in marketing/communications, including digital marketing campaigns and social media.  Minimum of 5 years’ experience in fundraising.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal, public relations and communication skills, including the ability to make presentations and handle media inquiries.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office or related software.
  • Ability to drive results and take initiative.
